For Vicky, discovering her bridal look was as much about how it felt as how it looked. After first trying on the Okotan corset at our stockist The White Closet in Didsbury, she couldn’t stop thinking about it. Further appointments at our Woburn Walk boutique confirmed what she already knew: this was the beginning of a look that felt entirely her own.
THE DRESS
Drawn to something romantic but playful, Vicky initially imagined layers of ruffles and tulle, but quickly realised that larger skirts didn’t feel like her, especially for a July wedding. The Okotan corset stood out for its draping and the way it defined her waist. When she paired it with the Okotan skirt, everything clicked. “It just felt right. It felt very me, which made me feel very comfortable.” Wanting to retain a sense of softness and fun, Vicky added the Margaret veil, which brought the layered, romantic element she had envisioned. “I absolutely love how the veil looks in pictures, like the fluffy cloud I wanted to be!”
Her fittings at Halfpenny London became a key part of the experience. The team “made me feel beautiful and confident on the day,” Vicky shares, helping her perfect the fit, movement, and even showing her how to tuck the sleeves into the corset so she could dance freely without changing for the evening.
“I really loved the idea of separates, and that if I wanted to I could wear the corset again, perhaps on honeymoon or anniversaries.”
THE DAY
Their celebration was a riot of colour and personality. Bright pink, red and silver set the tone, alongside a tiered Lambeth cake topped with cherries. The ceremony, led by a close friend, included guests blind-voting on the couple’s new surname, before the room came alive with tasselled garlands, a giant disco ball, and their first kiss to ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now’.
Dinner was served feasting-style, with vinyl singles doubling as personalised place settings, before a surprise Elton John impersonator launched the evening celebrations.“After our wedding everyone has said to us that it was such a fun, relaxed, friendly and love filled day which is exactly what we wanted.”
