When Jodi married her fiancé, James, at Middleton Lodge in Yorkshire, she stepped into a day that felt lifted from the pages of her favourite childhood book, The Secret Garden. The walled gardens, filled with hydrangeas, cosmos and daisies, set the scene for a celebration that was both deeply personal and effortlessly romantic.

THE DRESS

Jodi travelled from Newcastle to London for her appointment at the Halfpenny boutique. Reflecting on the journey, she says “although I was by myself, I never felt alone with the Halfpenny ladies — it was like being with the girls. Together, we experimented with various looks and accessories to find ‘the one.’ Their support and encouragement made the experience unforgettable.”

She chose the Cheryl dress in Italian silk, tied at the waist for soft structure, layered with the sculptural Ellie skirt in mikado for a dramatic aisle moment. “I wanted to create a dramatic entrance as I walked down the aisle, and the Ellie skirt gave me just that.” Her look was completed by the Dandelion veil, which “was the perfect finishing touch — my favourite purchase of the entire wedding and something I will treasure forever.”

As the evening unfolded, Jodi added the romantic Mayfair skirt in textured organza frills and the oversized Ariel bow. Even the alterations carried meaning, with excess fabric repurposed into bows and scrunchies for her flower girls, and the lining of the Ellie skirt transformed into a keepsake midi skirt.

THE DAY

Set in the enchanting Walled Garden at Middleton Lodge, the wedding reflected Jodi’s love of nature and nostalgia. “The venue reminded me of my favourite book, The Secret Garden, which I’ve read every year since I was a girl,” she recalls. The couple enhanced the natural beauty of the garden with soft tones and thoughtful details woven throughout the day. The floral details continued across the tablescape, stationery, and favours, with even the napkins hand-embroidered by her mother — small, meaningful touches that made the day uniquely theirs.
