The Groucho Club

Kate HalfpennyComment

Earlier this year, we collaborated with The Groucho Club for a unique shoot inside the legendary venue. Did you know you don’t have to be a member to have an amazing punk rock city wedding there? The Groucho Club is one of London’s best kept wedding secrets. The team these can plan an unforgettable wedding with only a month’s notice which basically makes them superhuman in my book! For more information on weddings at The Groucho Club, please visit these pages.

I loved spending the day in the club with some epic suppliers bringing these gorgeous images to life so hope you love them as much as I do!

Beautiful Ashley | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Beautiful bride Ashley and her lovely new hubby tied the knot in June this year with a lush, summery party surrounded by all of their favourite people. Described as a ‘Frida Kahlo garden party with an indie disco’ this wedding sounds right up my street! It was full of greenery, sangria, cocktails, piñata-hitting in place of cake cutting and lots of dancing!

“Halfpenny was recommended by a friend, but I had already seen Kate’s designs and adored how modern yet timeless they were. I had seen dresses at a show as well, and they were absolutely unique. The shop did not disappoint, with an intimate boutique feel; the staff treat each appointment very privately and personally. I actually had a few appointments since I was buying separate pieces, and the team were brilliant at giving advice, applying no pressure to the process, and clearly knowing their way around the dresses themselves – understanding the make, patterns and fits. The entire process was really dreamy and I would recommend [the Halfpenny] team just as fast as I’d recommend the beautiful dresses.”

Ashley chose our Palm skirt and Laura top for the ceremony and changed into a cami for the evening.

“I never thought I would go with anything two-piece, and always thought I wanted lace sleeves, but I couldn’t get over how gorgeous the laser-cut palm skirt was. I knew I wanted the Laura top from the first time I saw it. It is so unique, and an ultra elegant touch to top off a skirt that was a bit more fun. I loved the way it fell, and the way it came together with the top, it just felt right for me. I can’t wait to wear that again with some tuxedo trousers. I loved so many of the pieces at Halfpenny, and would have gotten two or three if I could have!”

Ashley looks incredible on her big day and I love the flower crown! The colourful blooms by Moss & Stone in Suffolk are perfect and I just adore these gorgeous pictures by The Smiths Photography. They capture the sheer joy and love of the day.

Huge congratulations to the newlyweds! We wish you every happiness in your new adventures together.

Lots of love,

Minimalist Bridal Style

Minimalist Bridal Style | Wedding dress by Halfpenny London | Image by Agnes Black.jpg

I adore this minimalist bridal shoot from One Stylish Day shot by Agnes Black featuring our delicious pieces.

“The vision for the shoot epitomised the One Stylish Day signature style; a design for a contemporary, style driven and minimalist couple who are willing to push creative boundaries, yet an underpinning air of complete elegance. The colour palette was kept to neutral, earthy shades with textures and tones being key to the look. The natural design in contrast with our modern, fearless and incredibly stylish Bride and a city centre space creates the perfect balance.”

The entire gorgeous shoot is featured over on Rock My Wedding so head over to take a look.

I’m working from home in Faversham today designing not one but two new collections. They are looking delicious! It’s such an inspiring environment to be in. The move out from London was such a huge decision but it has given me so much more room to think. It also make me hugely appreciate the days I am in London and the boutique, making them truly special.

Until next week!

Oliver | Our Dress of the Week

Kate HalfpennyComment

Meet Oliver… The perfect figure-hugging, fit and flare dress if you want to show off your curves. We use the most gorgeous stretch Duchess, Oliver looks equally amazing worn on it’s own or under one of our separates or capes. It’s such a versatile piece. Just look how different it looks depending on how you style it. I love the idea of having one look for the aisle with a skirt or top then whipping that off and rocking the sexy Oliver dress on it’s own for the reception.

Remember, remember the 5th of November… Happy bonfire night! I love this time of year. Time for winter coats, warm nights snuggling at home with loved ones and gorgeous winter weddings. The boutique is busy with brides picking up their gorgeous dresses and 2019 brides in to try for the first time. It’s so exciting.

Here are your favourite posts on Instagram last week. The gorgeous organza bow coat, a stunning real wedding and divine dresses by Rodarte which are giving me major bridesmaid feels.

Stunning Jessica | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Beautiful bride Jess married her handsome hubby Greg this summer in a chic, city celebration in their home town of Leicester.

Jess chose the Vera Frill dress for her big day and can we all just take a second to appreciate how amazing she looks? Jess had always dreamed of wearing a Halfpenny dress so was delighted when she visited a stockist and found the perfect one.

“After trying on a few dresses by various designers, the assistant pulled out what she felt would suit me and my style best. Unbelievably it was a Halfpenny dress but I was already in love before she told me. I chose the Vera Frill dress… Well, I actually feel like it chose me! As soon as I slipped it on, I just knew and the reaction from my bridesmaids confirmed it straight away. It was only the third dress I had tried and, other than a few minor alterations to the length, it fit like a glove. I felt that it gave me the elegant but modern effortless look I wanted. As soon as I felt the beautiful silk crepe and the feel of the dress I knew it was the one! It was a feeling many of my friends who have been married had told me about but one I never thought would be real for me!”

Jess kept her accessories simple. Grey suede platform shoes with silver lightning bolts by Terry de Hallivand were the perfect choice and earrings, a necklace and an arm cuff from the wonderful Tilly Thomas Lux finished off the look. She also chose a large, luscious bouquet made up of foliage and white orchids, as those were the first flowers that the new hubby ever bought her. Such a thoughtful, special touch.

Huge congratulations to the newlyweds! Your happiness radiates through these lovely images by Ed Brown. Thank you so much for choosing Halfpenny and, Jess, we’re so pleased we were able to give you the dress of your dreams! Wishing you both every happiness in your new lives together.

Good morning! Well, the weather has officially turned. I have so many layers on it’s crazy! I’m dreaming of balmy evenings in New York instead…

Have you seen our latest collection for Net-A-Porter yet? They’re perfect as alternative to traditional wedding gowns and stunning options for events surrounding the big day.

In other exciting news, Kate Moss looked amazing (as always!) in her red Halfpenny London spotty tulle dress in the new campaign for Decorte Beauty. I designed this for Kate in four colours and it’s also available in ivory in my bridal collection.

I’m spending the day in the boutique today with gorgeous brides-to-be. Feeling totally inspired and humbled to work with these fabulous women on their big day look. Can’t wait to open the doors!

Until next week…

Beautiful Natasha | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Beautiful bride Natasha married her gorgeous new hubby Jonathan at the Union Chapel in September this year. The newlyweds and their guests went on to celebrate with a huge party at the Old Finsbury Town Hall down the road.

The couple aren’t keen on formalities so the ‘Pub Tropicana’ theme they chose was totally inspired!

“The ever-growing guest list meant we couldn’t have our party in a pub, so we wanted to bring the pub to the Town Hall with a makeshift bar serving G&T’s and Mexican cocktails on tap with a load of fancy dress, tropical plants and Caribbean food thrown in for good measure.”

Natasha came to see us in January after saving the Willow dress on Instagram when helping research for a friend.

“Once I was engaged Halfpenny HQ was the first bridal shop on my list. On the day of our visit, Kate was in the studio and it was a brilliant experience. Kate is a dab hand at putting you at ease and makes the whole experience really enjoyable – encouraging you to be the bride you want to be and choose a dress that suits your personal style and makes you feel totally yourself.

The Willow dress was the first dress I tried on and I loved the embroidery, the low V back and bat wings. The Halfpenny dresses are beautiful and unlike other dresses I had seen before – a perfect combination of beautifully made dresses which are classic styles with a modern twist. I tried on other dresses but was absolutely taken with the Willow. Every bride has heaps of wedmin so I was really happy to have the dress sorted on my first visit!”

Natasha chose to keep her accessories to a minimum and allow the beautiful embroidery of the Willow dress to speak for itself so the pieces she did decide to wear were precious.

“I wore some jewellery given to me by my bridesmaids and some pearl earrings from Mum and grandma Susie. I wore this with my signature pink Mac lipstick on the day and pink was the accent colour for the wedding. My florist Emma Soulsby was brilliant in bringing together the most beautiful bouquets which were a combination of King Proteas teamed with plenty of foliage and pops of pink roses and dahlias.”

Thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous images with us Natasha. I’m thrilled you found your perfect dress in our boutique and huge congratulations to you both!

Lots of love,

Whew! What an intense few weeks that was… Between New York bridal market and lots of exciting things happening at the atelier, I haven’t had a second.

I’m so pleased to say we have more stockists to announce after our visit to New York. More info coming soon! It was a whirlwind weekend and then I rushed back to be with my hubby and son. I missed them so much so have been soaking up my time with them since I came back.

There’s lots to catch up on so I’m going to get back to work!

We had so many exciting things happening last week! The Halfpennys were at Brides The Show and the Thoroughly Modern Marriage event at The Ace Hotel with Knot & Pop. Check out our galleries for those as the team did the most amazing job at taking the essence of Halfpenny London offsite.

At Brides the Show we worked with florist extraordinaire Juliet Glaves to create a magical woodland inspired space and the feedback from brides-to-be was amazing.

We’re off to New York bridal market next week so it’s all go here!

Brides The Show 2018

Kate HalfpennyComment

As well as the fantastic event at the Ace hotel last weekend, the team also attended Brides the Show at Kensington Olympia. For the weekend of 21st - 23rd September, Olympia was transformed! Brides Fashion Director, the epic and amazing Bryony Toogood, created a magical 'Dreamland' space where fairytale, fantasy and fashion went hand-in-hand.

Working with florist extraordinaire Juliet Glaves, the Halfpennys created the most beautiful woodland inspired stand where we welcomed brides-to-be to see some of our best loved dresses. I’m constantly blown away by the creativity and vision of my team. You ladies are the best!

Thank you so much to all the lovely people who came to find us and say hello. We had a great weekend and can’t wait to see you again!

Thoroughly Modern Marriage | Ace Hotel with Knot & Pop

Kate HalfpennyComment

The Halfpennys and I were lucky enough to join the lovely team at the The Ace Hotel on their Rooftop for A Thoroughly Modern Marriage, an experience created in partnership with London-based wedding planners Knot & Pop. We met so many fantastic couples there and all of the suppliers really pulled it out of the bag to make it a superb event. We love the Ace so it was a real pleasure to sip a glass of prosecco and enjoy panoramic views of London.

James and I joined the panel discussion on ‘What makes a thoroughly Modern marriage’ alongside Danielle Pender (Riposte), Pip Black (FRAME), Hattie Fox (That Flower Shop) & Olivia Knight (Patchwork). There were so many pearls of wisdom which came out of the discussion but the main thing was that there are no secrets to a successful marriage. Only good ol’ fashioned communication, patience and respect for each other.

Thank you to all the wonderful couples to came to say hi to us. Can’t wait to welcome you into the boutique!
