I absolutely love it when our gorgeous brides' wedding pictures land in my inbox.  Seeing you looking blissfully happy with the love of your life is so moving and I always feel so honoured to have been a part of your big day.  We love sharing your images and love to see how you've styled your Halfpenny pieces. (Check out our real bride blogs here.)  It's no surprise that some of the favourite pictures from last week were of two very different brides.  LOVE!

Until next week!

Love,

Marlene & Dita | Our Wedding Dress of the Week

Kate HalfpennyComment

I'm using the term "wedding dress" loosely here but rules are meant to be broken after all!

Just because you're not a dress or skirt kind of woman doesn't mean you have to forgo an exquisite wedding outfit and the Marlene Duchess trousers are the perfect choice for brides-to-be who rebel against the status quo.  The wide legs and nipped-in, high waist detail keep the look ultra feminine and who doesn't love pockets!  Shown here with the Dita beaded corset, these fabulous trousers look equally stunning worn with a simple cami or a lace tee.

THis week on insta 11th Sept.jpg

Well... last week was intense.  And I mean that in a good way!  The brand new Black Edit was launched with an exclusive event at our boutique and atelier and myself and the team had the most amazing evening!  We're still on cloud nine now.

it's safe to say The Black Edit was a favourite of yours on Instagram last week.  Thank you so much for all the love.  I'm thrilled to be able to take you all to the dark side...

Until next week....

My wedding throwback...

Kate HalfpennyComment

James and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary recently and I'll take any excuse to share our wedding pictures again!  I can't believe I've never shared them on the website before so here we go!

For those of you who don't know, I married my beau, James Lee Duffy, an Art Director, Illustrator and Graphic Designer on 25th August 2012 at Nether Burrows Farm in Kirk Langley, Derbyshire.  We wanted a wedding that was relaxed and fun – a celebration with all our dear friends and family. It evolved into the most amazing, colourful wedding ever.

I worked closely with my team at the time, to create my corset and skirt.  It was interesting in that it really evolved, as it was originally going to be in lace, but when the dress was mocked up for me to try on, the simplistic, graphic silhouette just screamed ‘no lace’, which really shocked me very much, but, I knew I had to follow my instincts. Instead, I wore a pretty spotty tulle and French lace veil which was a lovely present.

I’m a curvy girl and I needed something that both showed off my best bits, but also had the drama I need and love in my clothes. The corset is so me – nipped in at the waist and draped to hide some of my ample bosom, and a big drama filled skirt! It actually had 17 meters of duchess silk in the dress!! Ridiculous, but worth every cm!

Our photographer was Victoria Dawe of Elegant & Wild – the most incredible wedding photographer ever. We have worked together for years on fashion shoots for magazines and it was of course the obvious choice to swap a wedding dress for our wedding photo’s when we both got engaged within months of each other.  Vicky cares so much about her clients and their guests, and the family and the wedding!

My favourite part of the day was saying ‘I DO’ to start with, to know that we were now married was amazing.  To this day, there’s absolutely nothing I’d have done differently – I now long to celebrate our anniversary every year in as big a style as on our wedding day itself! Surrounded by family and friends.

Love,

Kate & the Halfpennys xx

The Black Edit launch party

HALFPENNY-BLACK-EDIT-44.jpg

It's true!  We've gone to the dark side....... On Wednesday 6th September, we launched the much anticipated BLACK EDIT at a fabulous event in our beloved Woburn Walk.   Lush garlands by florist extraordinaire Fran & the Flower linked the boutique and atelier across our little street as our guests mingled, drinking delicious wine by Mirabeau and eating yummy canapés by Canababes.  Editors, journalists, friends & special guests were treated to an exclusive preview of the collection.   My lovely friends, Daisy Lowe and Millie Mackintosh managed to stop by for a glass of bubbly and both looked smokin' hot in some of the new pieces too!

After seeing my dresses transcending the world of bridal and being worn by celebrities and fashionistas alike, it was a natural step for me to delve deeper into occasion wear and explore this exciting evolution; from here, The Black Edit was born.  I had a ball revisited my archive and reinventing key styles with a striking black palette - everyone who knows me knows that I'm obsessed with wearing black so I was in heaven!

The models wore various pieces from The Black Edit to showcase them for our guests throughout the evening and they looked like movie stars.  The glam squad, aka Amy Conway from Bobbi Brown and Edward James created the most epic hair and make up looks which I adored!  We were also lucky enough to have House of Garrard there to adorn the ladies with the most exquisite jewels, fit for royalty.  The finishing touch was the utterly fabulous collection of shoes from Malone Soulier.

It was a superb night... The boutique was full of love and laughter and I am completely overwhelmed with the support from all of our guests including my amazing family and friends.  Thank you so much to all of the amazing suppliers who worked unbelievably hard to make the night a success and, last but by no means least, to my amazing Halfpennys.  I love you all dearly.

Love,

Kate xx

Some of the team travelled to Liverpool to host a trunk show with the gorgeous ladies at The White Closet last week.  It was so much fun to meet all of the beautiful brides to be and we loved the styling combinations you came up with!

My beautiful friend, Tilly Thomas celebrated her wedding at the weekend, wearing Halfpenny London (of course!) and the MOST FABULOUS shoes so check them out below.

Until next week....

Last week was so special as my husband, James, and I celebrated our wedding anniversary and our beautiful son, Sylvester, turned two years old the very next day!  Time flies and I'm so grateful to have these two beautiful human beings in my life.  We had the most amazing party for the little man and he had so much fun.

Meanwhile, I'm trying my best to balance work and family as we're prepping to go back to NYC in a month or so and there's lots to be done at the boutique with my stellar team.  Watch this space...

Until next week!

Gorgeous Amy | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Our beautiful bride Amy married new husband Ollie at the Asylum, London followed by a fun, informal reception at Brixton East.

After resisting making the big decision on which dress to go for, Amy eventually purchased her gown at one of our sample sales.

"I always drag out big decision-making, so when I saw a dress I liked I signed up for the designer’s sample sale: I knew I needed the pressure of an on-the-spot purchase to make sure I wouldn’t still be deliberating dress options a week before the wedding.

"I lost count of how many dresses I tried on during my hour’s appointment at Halfpenny London’s sample sale, but it was the look on my friends’, Tamsin and Liz’s faces that told me I’d found the one! The next day, Liz Whatsapp’d me pictures of brides in leather jackets, which not only appealed to my inner Rizzo but would offer some warmth for our February wedding."

Congratulations Amy & Ollie! We wish you every happiness in your new lives together.

Kate & the Halfpennys xxx

It's been a bit of a whirlwind week at Halfpenny HQ.  The Garden After the Rain collection was featured by Vogue which is very exciting!  I've been trying my best to balance family and work life and even managed to rope my beautiful niece into modelling one of our dresses, making the best of both worlds!

Until next week...

Daffodil | Our Wedding Dress of the Week

Kate HalfpennyComment

Our new Daffodil dress is super popular already with the bride that wants a simple chic alternative to a strapless gown.  The off the shoulder shape is so flattering and the twist adds just the right amount of detail without taking away from the simplicity of the silhouette.

Daffodil is available with a fitted or fuller skirt, or as a top and a separate, beautiful skirt.

Beautiful Jess | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Beautiful bride Jess married her new husband Nigel in April this year in a relaxed ceremony at North Cadbury Court.  The couple wanted their wedding to feel like a house party.

"Everyone was roaming around everywhere enjoying the house and grounds at North Cadbury Court. We decorated the ballroom where we ate with liberty print table runners, giant balloons and tons of gorgeous flowers, which felt colourful and fun. I just loved seeing everyone having a good time."

"I visited a few places in London and got an idea of the styles that seemed to suit me. It was fun testing the waters and trying on heavily embellished dresses, huge princess dresses as well as some sexier ones too! But I did tend to be a little disappointed by the quality of the fabrics, which led me to the beautiful styles at Halfpenny."

"I was welcomed at the boutique by Izzy who was so relaxed and genuine and I just felt comfortable immediately. I was a bit like a child in a sweet shop wanting to try everything on and did need to be held back a little! There was one particular dress I had seen on Instagram, which I was desperate to try, and it did feel so special actually wearing these beautiful gowns that I’d been wondering about since getting engaged."

Jess chose the Lizzy skirt and Iris cami with the Iris lace jacket and a silver belt and we love her entire wedding day look.

"To be honest I never really had that lightning bolt moment everyone tells you about finding your dream dress - I tried on so many gorgeous outfits in Halfpenny and wanted them all! I loved the swing of the Lizzy skirt, which felt full without being enormous, and the simplicity of the cami let the belt and skirt do the talking. The beautiful fabrics just looked stunning and knowing it was going to be made for me was really special."

Huge congratulations to Jess and Nigel!  We wish you every happiness in your new adventures together.
