Halfpenny London

Stunning Katherine | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Happy new year! I hope you had a lovely festive season, whatever you got up to.

We’re kicking off 2019 with beautiful bride Katherine’s destination wedding. Katherine married her new hubby in September last year in a laid back, modern Greek wedding on the island of Paros where her family have a summer house. Every element of this beautiful wedding was sourced from the island. The couple didn’t have a specific theme, instead, they decided to keep everything natural and make use of the simple beauty of the island.

“I had been to a few shops before going to Halfpenny - I was actually not far from getting a dress from Israel, which was a crazy idea mostly because the dress was just not right. I’d also been to some places in London but I never found anything that had quite the interesting and unusual designs and fabrics that make Halfpenny dresses so special. I also felt that a lot of the other dresses I found didn’t reflect my style or personality. At Halfpenny there are ideas and combinations that you didn’t even know existed and nothing is too difficult for them. I love the vintage feeling of some elements but the modernity and beautiful cuts of their dresses.

I was struggling to find something that I loved before going to Halfpenny but I knew that Fern was for me the second I tried it on. I’d walked past and admired the store for so many years (I studied at UCL for 8) and I knew that when I got married I would have to finally go inside! The whole experience was just amazing, every single time I visited - that’s probably why I kept going back. Every person who works there is so responsive and so helpful and I never felt pressured into making decisions. Kate was the best, I met her at an appointment when I was getting so confused but she was so supportive and calming and knew exactly what to do to reassure me. Sally was also amazing throughout the whole process, everyone was so accommodating and friendly and helpful, I loved everything about it and was made to feel like everyone really cared about me having the perfect wedding in the perfect dress.

I have recommended Halfpenny to every person I know who’s getting married and just wish I could do it all over again to go back and try everything on for the umpteenth time!”

Katherine chose the Fern dress and it was indeed the perfect dress for her.

“The Fern dress felt so right and so French and was just the most elegant, simple but gorgeous dress. I had seen it online and although I loved it in photos I think it looked and felt even better on! Some people might see it as a simple piece but I think it’s timeless and so classy. I’ve also had so many comments from people about how much they love the dress! It just felt so right and I felt so comfortable - I knew I had to get it. Also everyone who has seen it on has agreed it was the right one for me, including everyone at Halfpenny!”

Katherine wore her gown for the couple’s registration at the Old Marylebone Town Hall in London and then again on Paros. She accessorised it with a gold necklace from West Bengal where her hubby is originally from - a lovely touch. In Greece, she kept it simple with a pair of pearl earrings.

Huge congratulations to the happy couple! Thank you so much for sharing your stunning pictures with us. The couple’s wedding photography was a gift from their dear friend Rajee Sukumaran.

We wish you every happiness in your new lives together!

Lots of love,

Gorgeous Rosalind | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Beautiful bride Rosalind married her wonderful hubby Jake in a super fun, relaxed wedding at Jake’s house in Ireland. I’m so in love with these images by photographer James Frost. Look at that coastline!

“I went to one very traditional bridal shop and knew it wasn’t for me. But it was a good experience to have, when I found Halfpenny I knew I would find the perfect one! It was a lovely experience, it was a breath of fresh air walking into the boutique. Sally was getting as excited as me about different combinations of pieces. It was incredible to see all the beautiful fabrics and textures of all the dresses. We felt so relaxed and welcome, I didn’t want to leave! I always saw wedding dresses as a uniform, which I never wanted to wear. The brides personality just doesn't show with so many dress, but at Halfpenny the dresses had so much personality and were so individual, I really felt like myself when wearing them.”

Rosalind chose a modified version of our Breeze dress for her big day, choosing to add straps.

“It was a really hard choice, and I’m even now still thinking about some of the other options, but I ended up choosing the Breeze dress. It was my second or third appointment and I was with my Mum. She cried when I put that one on, and had not done that with any others. It was the original dress I had seen when first finding Halfpenny online so the reason I booked an appointment. Although I absolutely loved the other separate pieces and I never ever would have thought I would go for a big train or dress at all, but when I put it on, I knew this would be the only time I would wear it, so why not go big! And it was so swooshy! The dress was fun, the fabric was so gorgeous and sumptuous, and most importantly it had pockets! As we were having an outdoor wedding I loved that it was shorter at the front, it was so easy to walk in on the grass, and I knew I would be able to dance in it… and oh did I dance a lot!”

Thank you for allowing us to play a part in your big day Rosalind! Wishing you and Jake every happiness in the world in your new lives together.

Beautiful Nic | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Our gorgeous bride Nic and her lovely hubby Olly tied the knot in September this year in a stunning church ceremony. The couple wanted the wedding to be a real reflection of both their personalities and I think they’ve succeeded spectacularly.

“Our main aim for the wedding was to be a reflection of us both, so in some respects the styling of the wedding was a bit of a mix-match, but this reflects my own personal style in fashion and interior style too. Our home is a mix-match of colour, textures, patterns and style so I didn't have strict rules about everything matching for the wedding, I have a good eye for putting different things together and knowing they will work together in the end.”

Nic chose our Daffodil Top, and Ivy Skirt for her big day and she is a Halfpenny bride through and through!

“I was both excited and super nervous about finding THE dress. I love fashion, I'm really particular about my own style, and with doing a lot of styling for my job, I knew the pressure was on to find something amazing and maybe unexpected! I bought my dress form The White Room Bridal in Sheffield. They love the Kate Halfpenny dresses there, they were so knowledgeable about the brand that it felt like I was getting the full Halfpenny experience.”

“I never expect to end up with a top and skirt but I loved the end look. The dress was so comfy, so stylish and so unusual. It ticked every box for me. I actually saw a photo of my dress on Instagram and I had a really strong feeling that would be the one, and it was love at first sight. I adored it on the hanger and even more so when I tried it on."

I love Nic’s choice of paired back colour scheme and that amazing bouquet! Receiving my brides’ wedding pictures never fails to thrill me and this wedding was just so special.

Congratulations to the newlyweds! We wish you every happiness in your new adventures together!

Stunning Sarah | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Beautiful bride Sarah married her gorgeous hubby Lyndon in the beautiful Somerset countryside near Bath. I saw the first sneak peek of these breathtaking pictures when photographer John Barwood shared one on instagram and let’s just say it was love at first sight!

Sarah came to Halfpenny London looking for her dress of dreams and I’m so glad she did…

“I knew I wanted something elegant, less-is-more, and a little bit different but not in a way that felt forced, but just natural for me. And I knew I wanted something with a low back. My mum thought I’d love Halfpenny so we went with her and my bridesmaids and Rufus the dog and adored the studio. I could have moved in!

“We loved all the dresses I tried on too and were about to leave when they suggested I just at least try on a slip (I was adamant I didn’t want a slip as I was worried it would show too much chest), but when I came out in the Iris slip in ivory with the lace cape, we all knew we’d found the one. It was perfect. The fit, the gorgeous silk and delicate French lace cape, everything about it was as though it was made for me.”

I think it was the perfect choice for Sarah and I’m thrilled we were able to be a part of her big day. Sarah finished off her look with a star headband from Tilly Thomas Lux.

“Every single moment was just magical. That’s the best word I can use to sum it up. If I had to say which bit I enjoyed best, I’d probably say the ceremony, purely because that really did feel like someone was looking down on us. I have only ever wanted it to be outdoors and while the day was beautiful initially, the clouds had begun to set in. We’d practised the indoor version but it just wasn’t what I wanted. I love nature, that’s where I’m happiest, and having it with the grass between my toes and with the gorgeous grounds and deer around us were what I had dreamt of.”

What a magical wedding! Thank you to the newlyweds and to John Barwood for sharing these images with us. We wish Sarah and Lyndon every happiness in your new lives together.

Beautiful Jackie | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

“I wanted a dress that was simple yet fashionable, and appropriate for the venue. After going to 8 or 9 appointments and not loving anything, I went on my own to Halfpenny London, on my friend Jamie’s recommendation. The minute I walked into the beautiful, vintage inspired showroom I knew that’s where I’d find it. I chose a Custom Clemence gown, which I saw in a blush colour practically growing off the rack with its floral appliqués. I had it made in ivory as it better suited my skin tone and the venue. I wore it with a simple long veil, also from Halfpenny. Kate is so talented and her team was such a pleasure to work with!”

Gorgeous Emily | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Our beautiful bride Emily married her beau in June this year in a relaxed and fun celebration with their closest family and friends. Just look at the scenery! I’m totally in love with everything about this lovely wedding.

Emily chose our Vera feather dress and it suited her down to the ground.

“To be honest I loved bridal dress shopping, however I had got to the point where all the dresses were lovely and I hadn’t a hope of narrowing it down because none, although all lovely, really jumped out as “the one”. I had become incredibly frustrated by this.

I didn’t want a fussy dress, but before going to Halfpenny I had struggled to find something that was simple without being either boring or more suitable for a city wedding. I loved the flirty back of Vera and elegant simplicity of the front.

The day I visited the boutique it had been wet and wild outside and as me, my mom, my sister and bridesmaid clutched to the handle of the one small umbrella, we turned onto the small street and it was just idyllic. Short of wrapping us in towels they got us dried off, in a warm cozy environment, got us settled and we began browsing the rails. It was heaven.

I cannot thank you enough!”

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your special day Emily! We wish you every happiness in your new lives together.

The Groucho Club

Kate HalfpennyComment

Earlier this year, we collaborated with The Groucho Club for a unique shoot inside the legendary venue. Did you know you don’t have to be a member to have an amazing punk rock city wedding there? The Groucho Club is one of London’s best kept wedding secrets. The team these can plan an unforgettable wedding with only a month’s notice which basically makes them superhuman in my book! For more information on weddings at The Groucho Club, please visit these pages.

I loved spending the day in the club with some epic suppliers bringing these gorgeous images to life so hope you love them as much as I do!

Beautiful Ashley | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Beautiful bride Ashley and her lovely new hubby tied the knot in June this year with a lush, summery party surrounded by all of their favourite people. Described as a ‘Frida Kahlo garden party with an indie disco’ this wedding sounds right up my street! It was full of greenery, sangria, cocktails, piñata-hitting in place of cake cutting and lots of dancing!

“Halfpenny was recommended by a friend, but I had already seen Kate’s designs and adored how modern yet timeless they were. I had seen dresses at a show as well, and they were absolutely unique. The shop did not disappoint, with an intimate boutique feel; the staff treat each appointment very privately and personally. I actually had a few appointments since I was buying separate pieces, and the team were brilliant at giving advice, applying no pressure to the process, and clearly knowing their way around the dresses themselves – understanding the make, patterns and fits. The entire process was really dreamy and I would recommend [the Halfpenny] team just as fast as I’d recommend the beautiful dresses.”

Ashley chose our Palm skirt and Laura top for the ceremony and changed into a cami for the evening.

“I never thought I would go with anything two-piece, and always thought I wanted lace sleeves, but I couldn’t get over how gorgeous the laser-cut palm skirt was. I knew I wanted the Laura top from the first time I saw it. It is so unique, and an ultra elegant touch to top off a skirt that was a bit more fun. I loved the way it fell, and the way it came together with the top, it just felt right for me. I can’t wait to wear that again with some tuxedo trousers. I loved so many of the pieces at Halfpenny, and would have gotten two or three if I could have!”

Ashley looks incredible on her big day and I love the flower crown! The colourful blooms by Moss & Stone in Suffolk are perfect and I just adore these gorgeous pictures by The Smiths Photography. They capture the sheer joy and love of the day.

Huge congratulations to the newlyweds! We wish you every happiness in your new adventures together.

Lots of love,
