Beautiful Katy | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Beautiful bride Katy married Andrew in a stunning, personal ceremony in New Zealand.  Andrew proposed in Santorini and their wedding was steeped in family history in Hawke's Bay.

The ceremony was held at the Eskdale War Memorial Church just north of Napier, which was significant for the couple since Katy's parents were married there, followed by a reception at a rustic, laid-back Kiwi winery, Bay View's Crab Farm.

We love these gorgeous images by Eva Bradley & Andrew Caldwell.  See the full gallery here.

Congratulations to the happy couple!  We wish you every happiness in your new lives together!

Last week passed in a whirlwind of photoshoots and transatlantic flights...  My time in New York is nearly over and it's been such a fun trip!  It's always amazing to be here for bridal market and this year has been the best yet.  In between meetings we took to the streets for the obligatory yellow cab shot (when in Rome!) whilst elsewhere in Monaco, the gorgeous Millie Mackintosh wore our Cheryl dress to a Lancôme event.  Doesn't she look like a goddess??

Until next week!

Fabulous Jess (part 2!) | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

We've already shared my gorgeous friend Jess' STUNNING destination wedding with you (see it in all it's glory here!) but before she and Rob jetted off to the south of France, they had an equally fabulous, low-key and relaxed London wedding first.

“I really wanted to wear trousers for the London Wedding.  I found a pair of off white trousers I liked from River Island.  I showed Kate my trousers when I came in for discussions about the Dress for my French Wedding. I told her I was looking for a top and possibly a jacket and was trying to get her to take me out shopping.”

As it turned out, I was on the verge of announcing my Wild Love collection and Jess immediately fell in love with the Bow jacket and I think it was the perfect choice for her relaxed day.

“I was already going to blow my budget with the French couture Dress and so was hoping to buy ‘high street’ for London Wedding. I went away and dreamt of the coat. My mum then said she would help me with buying this magical piece, and so I did and honestly, I am SO glad I did. You can mix high street with high end and still look stylish. Well, I think so anyway!”

I couldn't agree more Jess!  Once again, congratulations Jess and Rob and, if you haven't seen it already, you MUST check out their fabulous second celebration.

Gorgeous Sarah | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Our gorgeous bride Sarah married Tom in August last year in a laid back garden ceremony.

“We had the wedding in Tom’s parents’ beautiful back garden in Worcestershire.  Tom grew up there and it’s such a special place with stunning views of the Cotswolds. We didn’t even consider any other locations, although we did have our civil ceremony in Edinburgh ten days before the ‘big wedding’ – it’s my hometown and I really wanted us to be legally married in Scotland. I had a clear idea in my mind of how I wanted the day to look and feel.  This became known (only half-jokingly) as ‘The Vision’.  The main priority was that we wanted to make the most of the garden and the incredible view.”

“I wore a mini-dress for our civil ceremony so I wanted to take the opportunity to wear a big, show-stopping dress but I still wanted to feel like me and stay true to my own style.  I went to the first appointment at Halfpenny with my friend Caroline.  I loved all the dresses but when I tried on the Esme and Caroline said I looked “like an adult ballerina”, I was sold.”

“Esme is made from the most beautiful fabric and the top layer is floral embroidered organza which was unlike anything I’d ever seen before.  I loved the fitted bodice, the low back and the amazing organza train which the sun shone through beautifully on the day.  I added spaghetti straps and a little belt to highlight the waist.  It was absolutely perfect.”

To complete her big day outfit, Sarah wore a silk flower crown by Florrie & Eve by Nadia di Tullio and we adore her entire look.

Huge congratulation to Sarah and Tom from all of us at Halfpenny London.  We wish you every happiness in the world.

Love,

I had a real "pinch me" moment last week looking across the street at our gorgeous new atelier. In the middle of London's first shopping mall, Woburn Walk is such a charming street and I can't help but smile at it's Dickensian charm.  The new studio walls are covered in moodboards and delicious fabrics and I feel so inspired!  Not least because I also had a fabulous appointment with a bride-to-be looking to mix things up and we had the most magical hour trying all of the most fabulous pieces in the shop.

Moments like these...

Until next week!

Fabulous Jess | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

My gorgeous friend Jess married her lovely Rob at Castelnau des Fieumarcon in Legarde, Gascony, France on 6th August last year.  Knowing the creative genius Jess is I knew her wedding would be spectacular and I was 100% right!

Jess and Rob had already tied the knot formally in London a month prior to celebrating in France but where to even start describing this epic wedding where the couple were crowned as ‘Sun King’ and ‘Moon Queen’ by their celebrant, rejoiced with ‘the elements’, celebrated with exploding confetti and rainbow coloured smoke bombs!

“We wanted a real festival feel for our wedding in France – like a fiesta or carnival. In fact we called it ‘Wedstock’! The background palette of the venue and surroundings were very natural, grass and greenery, straw bales, stone, rocks, gravel etc. I wanted to have all the décor as colourful as possible – rainbow colours. We asked all our guests to wear white, both for style and also comfort in the heat. We had originally wanted to do a ‘Holi’ festival of colour, but realised what a mess it would make so opted for coloured smoke bombs instead.”

I worked with Jess to create her dream wedding dress which was actually a top and skirt she could wear again afterwards.

“I wore pale grey/blue duchesse silk. I have always loved the corseted ‘wench’ look, and wanted something like this for the French Wedding. I also wanted something off the shoulder as I think it’s flattering.”“I knew it would be hot there and I wanted some bare skin so as to stay cool. I wanted to make the most of my lady bumps too. A corset helped keep ‘everything’ nice and tight. I did not want to wear white, ideally I wanted grey but we settled for a slight pale blue grey in the end.

For the skirt I really wanted to show my ankles off, as they are the skinniest bit of me! I loved the big chunky pleats and full skirt look, and we went for an asymmetric hem, which mirrors the curve of the neckline, but reversed.”

We love everything about this gorgeous wedding and I'm delighted we could play a small part in it.

Congratulations Jess & Rob!  We wish you every happiness in your new adventures together!

Kate & the Halfpennys xx

Vintage Wedding Inspiration

Kate HalfpennyComment

There's a reason vintage inspired weddings will never go out of style.  We'll always have a wistful affection for a bygone era of glamour and style and many brides want their weddings to be timeless and elegant.  Many Halfpenny wedding dresses are vintage inspired with a truly modern twist and, for me, that's the key to putting your own stamp on this trend.

From pistachio charger plates & classic cars to oversized blooms and fairytale ballrooms, here is some eternally elegant inspiration for you.

Beautiful Alexina | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Sometimes, you just know a wedding will be amazing before the bride has even chosen her dress and gorgeous bride Alexina's wedding sounded incredible from the beginning!

Alexina married the love of her life in a relaxed, fun, boho wedding last July and we are head over heels in love with her beautiful wedding pictures.

"From the moment I walked in and met the lovely Izie I knew I was going to end up getting my dress from Halfpenny.  The designs and fabrics were stunning obviously, but the whole 1-2-1 private experience, in the most gorgeous little shop, made me feel very special."

After searching high and low for the perfect gown, Alexina chose our Dita beaded bustier and Dita Dandelion skirt and we think it was the perfect combination for her.

"I loved the idea of separate top and bottom to feel like I had a unique look just for me! My description of what I wanted was “bride running through a forest” this combination was spot on!  A few dresses I had tried were stunning but not bridal enough, and others were too bridal for me - I am goldilocks apparently.  This top and skirt I couldn’t have designed in my head to be more perfect.  The silk organza flowers on the skirt just gave it this wonderfully romantic / boho edge and the bustier was a more a work of art than a top!"

In a deeply personal touch we love, Alexina completed her look with a victorian wax flower headpiece that her mother and aunt also wore at their wedding.

Everything about Alexina's wedding was utterly magical!   Merry-go-rounds should be mandatory at all weddings in our opinion...

Congratulations to the happy couple!  We wish you every happiness in your new lives together.

Lola and Dita Lace | Our Dress of the Week

I love mixing delicious fabrics in unusual ways and the Lola high low skirt is a great example of this.  Featuring a lace panel at the front of the Duchess lining and an ethereal organza overlay.

Shown here with the Dita lace corset with spaghetti straps, this is a youthful, flirty look for the big day.

Gorgeous Jasmyn | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Beautiful bride Jasmyn married her new husband David in a fabulously colourful Day of the Dead inspired London ceremony in Chelsea Town Hall followed by a spectacular Mexican honeymoon.

"David and I aren’t religious or very traditional so when it came to planning a wedding we knew we would do things our own way. We booked our honeymoon first and then worked back from that which suited us well. We had always wanted to go to the Day of the Dead festival in Mexico at the beginning of November so set the wedding date on the last Friday in October so we could fly the next day. We wanted an intimate ceremony with immediate family only so it meant there were only 10 of us on the day. This way we could also afford an extra special lunch and could relax and talk around one table. After a laid back day, we wanted to totally switch things up and have a big party we could invite everyone to."

Jasmyn was lucky enough to find our sequinned Lydia dress at our sample sale.  (Sign up to our mailing list if you'd like to hear about any future events!)

"I got an email about a sample sale at Halfpenny London and managed to get the first appointment in the day. I tried on 4 or 5 beautiful dresses in a room full of other bride to be’s. There was a great atmosphere and I didn’t feel pressure to buy as I knew I had a gorgeous dress I could wear for the whole day if I didn’t get another. I then tried on a vintage style lace and sequin dress, which I fell in love with instantly. They added a simple veil and I was the first to buy a dress that day."

Congratulations Jasmyn!  We are so happy you were able to find your perfect dress with us and we wish you every happiness in your new adventures together!

It's definitely warming up in London now!  I'm starting to dream of summer nights and days bursting with sunshine...  Hopefully the weather will hold out for this weekend as the team will be exhibiting at the Most Curious Wedding Fair in East London.  We're also running a little competition for the brides-to-be who will be there so make sure you swing by to say hi!

Back in the studio and I'm so excited for the beginning of wedding season and seeing our gorgeous brides-to-be for their fittings.  I'm also knee deep in delicious fabrics as we work on some new pieces...  Watch this space.

Beautiful Lucy | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Our beautiful bride Lucy married Matt on 27th August last year at a private farm in Somerset. They had a magical, laid back and relaxed kind of day, their rural setting peppered with delightfully glamorous elements.

“We wanted our wedding to be simply and naturally beautiful. The rolling hills of Somerset as our backdrop, the stone of the beautiful farmhouse and the height and scale of the old Dutch barn were stunning in themselves. We decided to keep it pared back and simple-to-source-and-make with a white, green and gold colour palette.”

“My incredible friend Bee won a Halfpenny London wedding dress in a magazine competition and gifted it to me. Blown away, and ridiculously lucky!  I went to Halfpenny a good two of three times before picking the dress. The beautiful shop in Euston is full to the brim with beautiful dresses and separates, I couldn’t decide! The girls there – Izie, Marilyne and Kate – were just so lovely through the whole process. So very lucky.”

Congratulations to Lucy and Matt!  We wish you all the happiness in the world.
