Halfpenny London

Stunning Katie | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Gorgeous bride Katie married her beau in September last year in a beautiful church ceremony.  During her search for the perfect wedding dress, she had visited a few other boutiques but hadn't found what she was looking for.

"Halfpenny London was the second place I visited and even though I did visit a third shop, upon walking in I wanted to walk straight out … I wasn’t feeling it in the slightest.  I then knew that Halfpenny London was the place for me … I was sold!"

Katie looked epic in the Andrea Crepe Skirt and Corset and I knew immediately it was the perfect dress for her!  She also chose one of our gorgeous veils...

"I wanted a veil and this one was perfect.  With the tie detail at the back of the corset and the beautiful line of the skirt the long veil didn’t look right, not on me anyway!  My dress fitted like a glove, felt incredible to wear and comfortable (v.important!) and I felt like I have never felt before and probably never will.  It was beautiful and that’s how I felt!"

Katie looked incredible on her special day and she finished off her outfit with a gorgeous Tilly Thomas Lux vintage diamante hair comb.

Thank you for sharing your gorgeous images with us Katie.  Huge congratulations to the newlyweds and we wish you every happiness in your new adventures together.

Ridley | Our Dress of the Week

Kate HalfpennyComment

Introducing the first dress from the brand new Atlantis collection... The Ridley top and skirt is one of my favourite looks from this collection.  The Ridley Lace top has a fine French trim and covered buttons.  It’s so fun and fresh and also very beautiful. The lace top can be worn over a dress or slip as a jacket or inside to make it look like a lace infill.  It’s a win-win addition. So diverse. The sleeves are like wings and are so floaty and elegant. The perfect cut, something which we spend a lot of time working on and perfecting. All the seams inside are bound as are the armholes and the neckline. The finish is so beautiful, I adore it!

The Ridley skirt is the softest chiffon and features multiple panels for maximum swoosh!  Top and skirt shown here worn over the Iris slip.

See the full Atlantis collection here.

Beautiful Laura | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Gorgeous bride Laura married the love of her life last October at Babington House, a stunning country house in the depths of the Somerset countryside. The couple wanted the wedding to be as elegant, timeless and classic as possible with emphasis on their guests having as much fun as possible.

Initially, Laura found the search for her dream dress to be a challenge...

"To be honest, I found wedding dress shopping quite a confusing experience. I didn’t have a clear idea of exactly what type of wedding dress I wanted, all I knew was that I didn’t want anything too traditional, something a bit different but still classic. I booked appointments at a few designers that I liked and tried on quite a few dresses and styles but ended up completely confused!

Halfpenny London was actually the first appointment I had. I had been admiring the beautiful dresses online for quite a while. Although I didn’t find my dream dress in that first appointment, Alexia at Halfpenny was so helpful and really guided me on the type of dress that would best suit my figure. I went to a number of other designers after that and tried on quite a few dresses and styles but ended up completely confused!"

"After starting to despair that I would never find my dream dress, the Halfpenny Sylvie dress popped up on my Instagram feed. I hadn’t tried the Sylvie dress at my first appointment so I decided to nip into the boutique one morning before work and just try on that one dress and that was it! I remember being really quite shocked about how much I loved the dress and everything just seemed to work. I then brought back various family members / friends to see the dress and Alexia at Halfpenny was so helpful, nothing was ever too much trouble. In one of my appointments I had the pleasure of meeting Kate which was such a treat!"

Some of you may know that the Sylvie dress has a special place in my heart because it's named after my beautiful son, Sylvester, and Laura was the very first bride to wear it on her big day!

"I knew that I wanted a dress that was a bit different, not too "bridal" but also something that was beautiful and wouldn't date. All the Halfpenny dresses are so timeless but modern and I felt like I could really relate to the brand.

I love embroidery and when I saw the Sylvie dress online, I just had to try it. I think I tried the dress on about 5 times (just to check!) and every time it was the same feeling… I just loved wearing the dress. I adored the detail of the dress, the exquisite embroidery on the top and the flowing silk skirt - I hadn’t seen anything like it before. Knowing that I was the first Halfpenny bride to wear the Sylvie dress also felt so special - like it was made for me! In my final appointment when I really didn’t want to take the dress off, I knew I had made the right decision!

I can't thank all the girls at Halfpenny London enough. I loved every minute of my appointments, they were so personal and magical and I was actually very sad when the whole experience was over!"

Laura...  you were a dream to work with and seeing your pictures and reading your lovely words brought a tear to my eye.  Thank you for choosing us to be a part of your special day.

Sadly, I'm at home sick today.  Uuugh!  Forced rest is really annoying but there's no point in fighting it so I'm cuddled up in bed with my cats having a snuggle.   Last week was a full-on week back so I'm trying not to feel too guilty...

The new Atlantis collection is now available to try in store which is so exciting!  Brides are loving it so far which makes me incredibly happy.  See a little preview below alongside some throwbacks to a gorgeous flower-filled shoot which is still one of my all time favourites!

Until next week...

Stunning Joanna | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Gorgeous bride Joanna married her handsome beau David in the beautiful, picturesque lakelands of Fermanagh, a county on the Northern Irish border where Joanna grew up. Both her parents and Grandparents were married in the small Holy Trinity Church at Crom so the venue was particularly special for Joanna.

"After a surprise engagement trip to Norway, David and I set ourselves the task of planning our wedding in 6 months, to fit around my university studies. David thought our tight time scale would require sacrifices in the planning process, but I was determined to make sure the day would be full of special details which allowed our personalities to shine through. Thankfully, all the cards fell into place to make that possible. We had a wonderful team of family and friends who helped with so many aspects of the day, and it was incredibly special to enter the church and see so many of our friends and family from all walks of life and different parts of the world gathered together. Needless to say, we had a wonderful day, full of smiles, music and a bit of Irish dancing thrown in for good measure!"

"Due to the time scale of our planning, I knew one of the first things that had to be ordered was my wedding dress. I did my homework and within two days of fittings I had found the perfect combination, thanks to the help of the beautiful designers and staff at Halfpenny London. Their outfits have a mix and match approach, and after I fell in love with the delicate detail of the climbing floral embroidery of the sheer tulle skirt we paired it with the sheer Iris slip, and the long sleeved draped backline top was the perfect final addition to deal with the unpredictable Northern Irish weather. My accessories reflected my love of colour and I paired the dress with a comfy pair of mid-heel antique mustard shoes from Hobbs."

"David gave me his great-grandmother’s antique emerald and diamond engagement ring which set the tone of our other jewellery purchases. My aunt, Rosalind Burleigh works at the jewellers T A Mercer, from whom we purchased my wedding ring and they resized my late-fathers wedding ring for David, which had been bought from Rosalind at the same jewellers many moons before."

Such a beautiful story...  It brought a tear to my eye.  I love everything about this fabulous couple's wedding and these pictures by Salt & Sea Photography Co. captured it perfectly.

Congratulations to the newlyweds!  We wish you every happiness in your new lives together.

Love,

This is my last round up of 2017...!  This year has gone by so quickly and what a year its been!  We launched the Standing on Stardust collection as well as The Garden After the Rain, an exclusive capsule collection for Net-A-Porter and, finally, The Black Edit so it's safe to say it's been an incredible year.

Aside from the collection launches, other highlights include the opening of the atelier across the road from our boutique in Woburn Walk and having the pleasure of being stocked in more gorgeous boutiques around the world.  Not to mention working with all of our epic Halfpenny brides!  I say it all the time but seeing you all looking so happy in your beautiful wedding pictures it's the most amazing, inspiring and rewarding part of my job.  It's been an absolute pleasure working with you this year and can't wait to meet all of the new brides-to-be in 2018.

We hope you have a fabulous Christmas and we wish you all love and luck in the new year!

Until next year...

Beautiful Jennifer | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate Halfpenny1 Comment

Gorgeous bride Jennifer married her new husband Matt in July this year is a stunning coastal wedding in Scotland.  Their ceremony was held at South Knapdale Parish Church, Achahoish and they travelled to nearby reception venue Crear, Kilberry by Tarbert.  I love the quirky and personal touched Jennifer and Matt brought to their big day.

Jennifer discovered us through the fabulous Love My Dress blog:

“Browsing Love My Dress, every dress I liked turned out to be Halfpenny London and I knew I was forming great love for them. Full disclosure: I owned three wedding dresses during our engagement. I tried on a lot of dresses in a lot of shops and then tried on Violet at Halfpenny HQ and loved it, but was going to a sample sale the next week. At said sample sale I panic-bought a dress on sale and was immediately plagued by doubts. Cue a few weeks of stressing but once I firmly made the decision to go back and buy Violet I felt so calm and reassured I was making the right decision.”

“I knew I wanted a dress with a high neck and a belted waist. I loved that Violet had no boning or buttons or structure, I could just pop her on over my head and I was good to go. The heavy lace was a mix of simple and fancy, and I adored how dramatic the low back was! I also pretty much live in t‐shirts, so the sleeves are very me.”

Congratulations to the newlyweds!  We wish you every happiness in your new adventures together.

After the magical snow day yesterday, London is wet and miserable this morning so we've turned the festive tunes up in the boutique and everyone is keeping cosy.  It's the Halfpenny Christmas party on Wednesday and the ladies have no idea what I've planned for them.  All will be revealed....

Well, winter is well and truly here...  Time to wrap up warm and snuggle up!  I'm on the way into the boutique for a day of designing and appointments before heading to the British Fashion Awards tonight.  I spend my life choosing the perfect dress for my clients and I have no idea what I’m going to wear!!!!

With the impending release of the new collection I always find myself reminiscing and looking back at my past pieces.  Did you see our campaign shoot from 5 years ago?  I still love it today, even though we've come so far since.

Stunning Claire | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Gorgeous bride Claire married the love of her life in July this year in a ceremony full of so much joy and laughter, as you can probably already tell from these gorgeous images by Lydia Taylor Jones.

After some searching elsewhere for her perfect dress, Claire chose our Marilyne Gown for her big day and the delicate Chantilly lace suited her down to the ground.

"The thing with me is I generally like a lot of styles, and therefore and I need some help to consolidate my thoughts and this is where I found Halfpenny’s to be masters, with their great customer service and honest, beautiful dresses.  My Mum, best Friend and I had already been to 3 bridal stores in London that day, and we all said that Halfpenny’s was the best experience along with the prettiest of dresses.

I chose the Marilyne Gown; it’s an elegantly effortless, versatile dress, that I felt myself in, which was most important to me.  When I put this dress on I could picture myself in it during the wedding day and just knew it was for me."

Thank you so much for choosing us to be a part of your special day Claire!  We are so very honoured and we wish you and your new hubby every happiness in your new adventures together.

Good morning London!  I'm heading into the atelier for a busy day of meetings and can't wait to get going.  We're recruiting for a new bridal stylist to join our team so if that's you let us know!

Did you spot the gorgeous Lydia Elise Millen wearing our black Cheryl dress?  She looked epic in the slinky bias cut halter dress for a dinner at the Natural History Museum.  Love her!

I loved how excited everyone gets over a dress with pockets!  The Wave dress from our new collection has pockets and I don't know what it is about it that makes me so excited.  Simple pleasures...

Gorgeous Samantha | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Effortlessly cool, totally gorgeous bride Samantha and her new husband tied the knot in July this year.  Their urban chic, London wedding was full of stunning florals and beautiful details.

Samantha chose our Iris Slip & Susie Skirt for her big day and we think she looks incredible!

"Alexia made the experience an amazing one. I loved that there was nobody else in the shop – I had free reign to explore all the dresses and Alexia was incredibly helpful walking me through the range and offering suggestions. I was made to feel completely at ease and really enjoyed trying on a range of dresses, including ones which I might not have picked out myself.

"I chose the Iris Slip & Susie Skirt because they were light – I didn’t feel weighed down and could move quite freely. I also adored the detail and fun design on the skirt. I had never seen anything like it before. It just felt completely right and ticked all the boxes – fun, light, summery…"

I adore these gorgeous images by Daniele Fummo and we wish the newlyweds all the happiness in the world.

Last week, my amazing husband James and I celebrated eight whole years together!  We took a mini break to Paris to mark the occasion and I was treated to a visit to the Dior exhibition which I LOVED.  The dresses were utterly exquisite, full of stunning details.  Truly works of art.

We also celebrated with my dear friend Erin O'Connor, who only went and got herself honoured by the Queen and got a shiny MBE!  What an incredible achievement and seriously well deserved.  I'm so proud of her.

"I LOVED my appointments at Halfpenny London. Firstly, the boutique is absolutely beautiful! It’s like stepping into a treasure trove filled with lace and tulle and sparkly things… I wanted to try EVERYTHING. "I actually fell in love with two dresses. I was set on the Violet Full French lace but then the Dita caught my eye and I had to try it. They are two very different dresses but equally beautiful. My bridesmaids were extremely patient and humoured my contestant ‘which one would you go for?!’ phone calls! "Ultimately the Dita made me feel the more bridal of the two, I loved the way it moved and how it fit me. It made me feel like a princess (a cliché but I think we secretly all want to feel that way on our wedding days) but still had the modern, cool feel that all of the Halfpenny dresses have. The beaded bustier was just exquisite, I hadn’t seen anything like it before. From a far it almost looks like lace. When I didn’t want to take it off I knew it was the one." Beautiful Hannah | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Beautiful bride Hannah married her new husband, Oliver, on the 12th of August 2017 near Henley-on-Thames at St Botolph’s Church Swyncombe – a very special location for both the bride and groom. They then celebrated in style under PapaKåta tents for their garden wedding at Oliver’s parent’s home a short distance away.

Their wedding is full of gorgeous details and special touches and we're thrilled that Hannah chose to wear our Iris Rose dress.

“After explaining what I was looking for, and what our wedding was going to be like (including the fact I was planning on going on a mile-long walk through the woods on the day), Kate picked it out for me to try. As soon as I put it on, I knew it was perfect. It is beautiful, elegant and timeless, but what I loved most was how I felt in it. It just felt so comfortable, and I knew I would be able to eat and dance as much as I wanted."

Congratulations to the happy couple!  We wish you all the very best in your new adventures together.
