Stunning Elly | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Gorgeous couple Elly and Hugo's Scottish meets East London wedding is the perfect fusion of traditional and cool!  I adore the street art in the second picture and men in kilts?  What's not to love!

Elly chose our Chloe spotted dress and was, if fact, the very first bride to wear it!

"I wanted something elegant but that felt modern and in keeping with our venue. The flattering cut nipped in at the waist and eyelet back were perfect, and the polka dot design gave it the fresh twist I was looking for. It was part of Halfpenny’s new collection and I would be the first bride to wear it which also felt really special. Halfpenny was the first and only dress shop I went to, you get the shop to yourself so it’s a lovely experience with family and friends. The assistant made me try on the Chloe last, she said after that she knew it would be the one so she wanted to build up to it."

Our stylists are just brilliant at understanding what a bride is looking for and I'm thrilled Elly was happy with her dress.  I think she looks wonderful and i wish the newlyweds a long and happy marriage!

Love,

Kate & the Halfpennys x

Gorgeous Jo-Anne | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

I couldn't help but smile when beautiful bride Jo-Anne's wedding pictures landed in my inbox.  I absolutely love this gorgeous outdoor wedding, made particularly special as the couple chose to have an unplugged ceremony - an idea I love!

Jo-Anne chose our Esme dress and Bolero for her aisle style then rocked the strapless dress on it's own for the party.  She looked absolutely stunning!

Congratulations to the happy couple!

Beautiful Rebecca | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Our gorgeous bride Rebecca married Chris, the love of her life, in July this year.   Rebecca is half English and half South African, so it was important to the couple that both cultures were represented (Chris is English but loves spending time in South Africa) so they embraced a loose theme of “English eccentricity meets South African frivolity”!

Rebecca chose our Daisy dress with feather sleeves during a spontaneous, last minute appointment!

"My grandmother was visiting from South Africa and only in London for a day or two. We had just been to another dress shop and I was treating her to lunch and a glass of Champagne for her birthday. As we were discussing dresses over lunch I showed her a picture of the Daisy dress on my phone and she absolutely loved it – I think she described it as “young, fun and frivolous”. We called Halfpenny from the restaurant and, luckily, they had an appointment available that afternoon, so we jumped in an Uber and headed over.

"I chose the Daisy dress with feather sleeves and a mid-size satin sash. I loved how comfortable and easy to wear the Daisy dress was; it was simple and elegant but I could jazz it up with the feather sleeves and jewellery. It was a lot more fun than the other dresses I had tried on and I liked that it felt young and frivolous. The satin sash cinched in my waist nicely and had a beautiful bow at the back, which added a nice romantic touch.

"I think the way we went about booking the appointment – it was all so spontaneous and funny – made it feel like it was meant to be. I’ve always admired my grandmother’s sense of style so if she approved I knew it must be a winner! It was very unique and I thought that, while my guests would never have pictured a dress like this ahead of the day, they would also think it was very me once they saw me in it. It also matched our eccentric venue well."

Rebecca finished off the look with a gold and labradorite headpiece she found on Etsy and a 95-year-old lace veil that her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother had all worn on their wedding day.  Stunning!

Congratulations to the happy couple and we wish you all the very best in your new adventures together!

Love,

Kate & the Halfpennys xx

I say this all the time but here I go again: Be the bride you want to be!  Obviously, whatever you do is up to you, but you don't need to lose X amount of weight or any other silly thing for your wedding day.  You are perfect as you are and don't let anyone tell you any different.

I'm proud to design for women of all shapes and tastes and have a look at these three beauties below.  These were the three most popular posts on my Instagram feed last week and I have to say I'm not surprised.  Aren't they all gorgeous?!

Until next week...

Beautiful Ashleigh | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Beautiful bride Ashleigh married her new husband Tom in June this year at St Mary’s Church in Reepham, Norfolk.  (You must read their proposal story over on Love My Dress!  So adorable...)

The venue was an antique marque decorated with flowers, bunting, enamel jugs, floral seat cushions, straw bales and crochet/knitted blankets surrounding the firepit – a magical setting with a handmade, rustic vibe, for the couple and their guests to kick back and celebrate after the ceremony.

Ashleigh chose our Susie skirt and Iris slip and she looked incredible!

“I had been so worried that I may not find a dress that suited me but it’s as though my Halfpenny London dress and skirt were made just for me. I felt like me but just more beautiful and feminine. The design is so simple and paired back at the first glance but at second glance you can see the intricacy in the craftsmanship of the hand-cut applique which is just gorgeous.”

Congratulations to the gorgeous couple!  We wish you every happiness in your new lives together!

Marlene & Dita | Our Wedding Dress of the Week

Kate HalfpennyComment

I'm using the term "wedding dress" loosely here but rules are meant to be broken after all!

Just because you're not a dress or skirt kind of woman doesn't mean you have to forgo an exquisite wedding outfit and the Marlene Duchess trousers are the perfect choice for brides-to-be who rebel against the status quo.  The wide legs and nipped-in, high waist detail keep the look ultra feminine and who doesn't love pockets!  Shown here with the Dita beaded corset, these fabulous trousers look equally stunning worn with a simple cami or a lace tee.

My wedding throwback...

Kate HalfpennyComment

James and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary recently and I'll take any excuse to share our wedding pictures again!  I can't believe I've never shared them on the website before so here we go!

For those of you who don't know, I married my beau, James Lee Duffy, an Art Director, Illustrator and Graphic Designer on 25th August 2012 at Nether Burrows Farm in Kirk Langley, Derbyshire.  We wanted a wedding that was relaxed and fun – a celebration with all our dear friends and family. It evolved into the most amazing, colourful wedding ever.

I worked closely with my team at the time, to create my corset and skirt.  It was interesting in that it really evolved, as it was originally going to be in lace, but when the dress was mocked up for me to try on, the simplistic, graphic silhouette just screamed ‘no lace’, which really shocked me very much, but, I knew I had to follow my instincts. Instead, I wore a pretty spotty tulle and French lace veil which was a lovely present.

I’m a curvy girl and I needed something that both showed off my best bits, but also had the drama I need and love in my clothes. The corset is so me – nipped in at the waist and draped to hide some of my ample bosom, and a big drama filled skirt! It actually had 17 meters of duchess silk in the dress!! Ridiculous, but worth every cm!

Our photographer was Victoria Dawe of Elegant & Wild – the most incredible wedding photographer ever. We have worked together for years on fashion shoots for magazines and it was of course the obvious choice to swap a wedding dress for our wedding photo’s when we both got engaged within months of each other.  Vicky cares so much about her clients and their guests, and the family and the wedding!

My favourite part of the day was saying ‘I DO’ to start with, to know that we were now married was amazing.  To this day, there’s absolutely nothing I’d have done differently – I now long to celebrate our anniversary every year in as big a style as on our wedding day itself! Surrounded by family and friends.

Love,

Kate & the Halfpennys xx

The Black Edit launch party

Kate HalfpennyComment
HALFPENNY-BLACK-EDIT-44.jpg

It's true!  We've gone to the dark side....... On Wednesday 6th September, we launched the much anticipated BLACK EDIT at a fabulous event in our beloved Woburn Walk.   Lush garlands by florist extraordinaire Fran & the Flower linked the boutique and atelier across our little street as our guests mingled, drinking delicious wine by Mirabeau and eating yummy canapés by Canababes.  Editors, journalists, friends & special guests were treated to an exclusive preview of the collection.   My lovely friends, Daisy Lowe and Millie Mackintosh managed to stop by for a glass of bubbly and both looked smokin' hot in some of the new pieces too!

After seeing my dresses transcending the world of bridal and being worn by celebrities and fashionistas alike, it was a natural step for me to delve deeper into occasion wear and explore this exciting evolution; from here, The Black Edit was born.  I had a ball revisited my archive and reinventing key styles with a striking black palette - everyone who knows me knows that I'm obsessed with wearing black so I was in heaven!

The models wore various pieces from The Black Edit to showcase them for our guests throughout the evening and they looked like movie stars.  The glam squad, aka Amy Conway from Bobbi Brown and Edward James created the most epic hair and make up looks which I adored!  We were also lucky enough to have House of Garrard there to adorn the ladies with the most exquisite jewels, fit for royalty.  The finishing touch was the utterly fabulous collection of shoes from Malone Soulier.

It was a superb night... The boutique was full of love and laughter and I am completely overwhelmed with the support from all of our guests including my amazing family and friends.  Thank you so much to all of the amazing suppliers who worked unbelievably hard to make the night a success and, last but by no means least, to my amazing Halfpennys.  I love you all dearly.

Love,

Kate xx
