Lola and Dita Lace | Our Dress of the Week

Kate HalfpennyComment

I love mixing delicious fabrics in unusual ways and the Lola high low skirt is a great example of this.  Featuring a lace panel at the front of the Duchess lining and an ethereal organza overlay.

Shown here with the Dita lace corset with spaghetti straps, this is a youthful, flirty look for the big day.

Did you see this gorgeous inspiration shoot by John Barwood?  I love these images of beautiful Thea in our pink Clemence dress and it seems you do too as it was one of our most popular posts on Instagram last week.

Here are the rest of your favourites!

Gorgeous Jasmyn | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Beautiful bride Jasmyn married her new husband David in a fabulously colourful Day of the Dead inspired London ceremony in Chelsea Town Hall followed by a spectacular Mexican honeymoon.

"David and I aren’t religious or very traditional so when it came to planning a wedding we knew we would do things our own way. We booked our honeymoon first and then worked back from that which suited us well. We had always wanted to go to the Day of the Dead festival in Mexico at the beginning of November so set the wedding date on the last Friday in October so we could fly the next day. We wanted an intimate ceremony with immediate family only so it meant there were only 10 of us on the day. This way we could also afford an extra special lunch and could relax and talk around one table. After a laid back day, we wanted to totally switch things up and have a big party we could invite everyone to."

Jasmyn was lucky enough to find our sequinned Lydia dress at our sample sale.  (Sign up to our mailing list if you'd like to hear about any future events!)

"I got an email about a sample sale at Halfpenny London and managed to get the first appointment in the day. I tried on 4 or 5 beautiful dresses in a room full of other bride to be’s. There was a great atmosphere and I didn’t feel pressure to buy as I knew I had a gorgeous dress I could wear for the whole day if I didn’t get another. I then tried on a vintage style lace and sequin dress, which I fell in love with instantly. They added a simple veil and I was the first to buy a dress that day."

Congratulations Jasmyn!  We are so happy you were able to find your perfect dress with us and we wish you every happiness in your new adventures together!

It's definitely warming up in London now!  I'm starting to dream of summer nights and days bursting with sunshine...  Hopefully the weather will hold out for this weekend as the team will be exhibiting at the Most Curious Wedding Fair in East London.  We're also running a little competition for the brides-to-be who will be there so make sure you swing by to say hi!

Back in the studio and I'm so excited for the beginning of wedding season and seeing our gorgeous brides-to-be for their fittings.  I'm also knee deep in delicious fabrics as we work on some new pieces...  Watch this space.

Until next week...

Beautiful Lucy | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Our beautiful bride Lucy married Matt on 27th August last year at a private farm in Somerset. They had a magical, laid back and relaxed kind of day, their rural setting peppered with delightfully glamorous elements.

“We wanted our wedding to be simply and naturally beautiful. The rolling hills of Somerset as our backdrop, the stone of the beautiful farmhouse and the height and scale of the old Dutch barn were stunning in themselves. We decided to keep it pared back and simple-to-source-and-make with a white, green and gold colour palette.”

“My incredible friend Bee won a Halfpenny London wedding dress in a magazine competition and gifted it to me. Blown away, and ridiculously lucky!  I went to Halfpenny a good two of three times before picking the dress. The beautiful shop in Euston is full to the brim with beautiful dresses and separates, I couldn’t decide! The girls there – Izie, Marilyne and Kate – were just so lovely through the whole process. So very lucky.”

Congratulations to Lucy and Matt!  We wish you all the happiness in the world.

There are so many changes going on around me at the moment and it's such an exciting time. I've been thinking a lot about the journey of the brand and reflecting on my inspirations and how they've evolved over the years.  Alongside my love of modern high fashion, some inspirations have deep roots in my childhood and have become an intrinsic part of my work.

In these exciting times of change it's good to have some things that stay the same.

Until next week!

Stunning Claire | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Our beautiful bride Clare married new husband Kon in January this year.  The couple wanted to keep their Sydney wedding simple and fun and Clare found us on her hunt for a dress to suit her relaxed wedding.  The Virginia Jacket worn over an ivory Thea slip proved to be the perfect choice for her.

We love these dramatic pictures by Miko Meeks of Studio Something and Clare looks incredible in her dress! We're so thrilled to have been a part of their special day.

Congratulations to the happy couple and we wish you all the happiness in the world!

Italian Cocktail Skirt | Our Dress of the Week

Kate HalfpennyComment

Our Dress of the Week is actually another set of bridal separates!  I love the versatility of separates, allowing our brides to create unique looks to showcase their personalities on their wedding day.

This week, the Italian cocktail skirt features a chic half-wrap detail and a flattering wide waistband with a knotted sash at the front.  Shown here with the RAF jacket, it's a perfect piece for a stylish, contemporary bride.

I'm writing this from my new desk at No.9 and I can't tell you how happy this makes me! Predictably, the move was chaotic but the Halfpennys all pitched in and it all happened remarkably quickly.

I spent the weekend having some R&R with my family and I can't believe how grown up my little Sylvester is now.  He's 18 months old now and it's been the most incredible, rewarding, challenging experience of my life.  Balancing family and work life is a constant learning curve for me but I wouldn't have it any other way!

Until next week...

Beautiful Imogen | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate Halfpenny1 Comment

Gorgeous bride Imogen tied the knot in a beautiful countryside ceremony in September 2015. She discovered Halfpenny London on Instagram and loved the style of our gowns from the beginning.

Imogen chose our Violet lace dress which was perfect for the relaxed wedding they had planned.

"It was a countryside wedding so the thought of sparkles or corsets felt ridiculous. [The Violet dress] was the only one I could imagine myself wearing outside of a bridal shop – it hung beautifully and had such exquisite lace. It didn’t feel nearly as formal as anything else I had tried."

Imogen's wedding day look was completed by a flower headpiece made by a friend and we think she looks incredible.

Congratulations to the happy couple!  We wish you many, many years of happiness.

Boho wedding inspiration

Kate HalfpennyComment

Bohemian weddings - in the true sense of the word - are unpredictable, unique, quirky and highly creative and it's always amazing to see how our brides incorporate their own style into their big day.  For me, boho means mixing textures and fabrics, juxtaposing old with new and thinking outside the box.  Here is some inspiration from the Halfpennys but don't be afraid to do it your own way.

Fortune favours the bold...

The renovations on number 9 continued last week.  We're nearly there!  I love the dark green walls and the speckled pink floor...

We were blessed with great weather and just the right amount of wind to capture the drama of our ostrich feather skirt and Laura drape top on the streets of London.

Until next week!

Gorgeous Melissa | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Beautiful bride Melissa tied the knot in August last year in the Council Chambers in Bethnal Green town hall.  Inspired by a photoshoot in the same room which featured one of our dresses, she decided to weave a little flavour of that style into her big day.

After initially coming to us to try our range of bridal separates, Melissa found herself falling in love with something entirely different in our Antonia dress.

"I had never dress shopped anywhere before Halfpenny. I worked at a bridal show years ago and I met a wedding blogger who introduced me to Halfpenny. I knew when the time came it would be my go to place. I’m very decisive and I know what I like.

"Before coming to the appointment I was asked what I would like to try and I thought I would be a really ‘modern bride’ and chose a two piece look. I chose the Thea beaded camisole and a Lizzie circular chiffon skirt. We tried those on and I liked them but the lady suggested the Iris Classic dress over a blush slip with a small sash AND the Antonia dress I tried them on and couldn’t believe how much I liked having a more traditional dress silhouette.

"It was a VERY tough call between the Iris dress and the Antonia. When I brought my sister to see it I knew, and she knew, the traditional and simple front to the Antonia dress and the dramatic back was just right for me. I wanted a very paired down look, I had planned a simple pony tail with a ribbon (purple to match my flowers) with no veil, but right at the end during my last fitting the seamstress suggested and sash and I just loved it. We went with an oyster colour large sash in duchesse satin folded in half."

Congratulations to the newlyweds!  We wish you every happiness in your new lives together.

Morgan shirt dress | Our Dress of the Week

Kate HalfpennyComment

Our Dress of the Week is the Morgan shirt dress.  Shown here over the Iris slip, the lace features the prettiest, modern pattern and the scalloped sleeves and neckline are deliciously feminine. The finishing touch is an ethereal tulle skirt.

Our more daring brides can choose to ditch the slip - although we take no responsibility for your grandparents' reaction...

Beautiful Lucy | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Beautiful bride Lucy married the love of her life in July last year in a relaxed ceremony with an English country garden feel.

We're so thrilled to have made Lucy's dream wedding dress, especially since she always knew she wanted a Halfpenny London gown so we had a lot to live up to!

"I had presumed two things about wedding dress shopping – one, that it might be intimidating, and two, that people in wedding dress shops would just tell you you look good in everything… But I was wrong on both counts! Halfpenny London is the most relaxing and lovely place. And although I wanted to try on every single dress, Jean was amazingly helpful and helped me see very quickly which styles suited me. It could have been quite overwhelming, but she was wonderful."

Lucy chose our beautifully embroidered, strapless Esme dress and everyone agreed it was the perfect choice for her.

"It's the dress I would have designed myself if I had anywhere near the skill or imagination to be able to do so! On my wedding day everyone said they couldn’t imagine me in any other dress. One friend looked on the Halfpenny website before I got married, and said, ‘obviously that’s the one you’ve gone for isn’t it?’ It’s just very me. I tried to imagine wearing another dress on the day and couldn’t. I knew if I went for something else I would always think about this dress."

Thank you for sharing your gorgeous wedding pictures with us Lucy.  We're so happy we were able to be a part of your special day.  Congratulations from the Halfpenny team!
