“Your wedding dress is something you dream about your whole life, and I feel unbelievably lucky to have spent the past year working with the one and only Kate Halfpenny to create not just one, but two gowns from scratch”
This year we had the pleasure of working closely with Grace Beverley to bring her bespoke bridal vision to life, crafting two distinct yet beautifully cohesive looks for her day and evening celebrations in the South of France. “It was an honour to create pieces that felt so uniquely Grace, with every detail telling a part of their story. Grace truly was a dream to work with,” said Creative Director Kate Halfpenny.
The Ceremony Look
“From my very first appointment in the Halfpenny London boutique, Kate understood exactly what I wanted: something structural yet feminine, with volume that didn’t overwhelm, and touches of corsetry and vintage silhouettes while still feeling timeless.”
For the ceremony, Grace envisioned a bodice style that enhanced her waist and created an exaggerated hipped silhouette. The foundation of the dress was a fully corseted bustier, handmade in our atelier, with the skirt formed of layers and layers of soft tulle that extended into a long train.
Featuring an overlaid peplum bodice made in duchess satin, with a pleated draped neckline and tagliatelle straps, the silhouette was further exaggerated into panniered hips built out with crinoline to give a sculptural, hourglass effect. The centre back closed with a spine of covered buttons. “The final look was perfectly balanced to be fashion-forward whilst remaining timeless,” Kate recalls.
The Reception Look
As the evening unfolded, Grace stepped into her second gown: an ode to the couple’s heritage and love story.
For the reception look, Kate explains that she wanted to design “an effortlessly elegant gown defined by soft draping and fluid folds that fell beautifully along her body.” The shape of the neckline was designed to sit perfectly on the edge of Grace's shoulders and the dress was cinched at the waist with a corseted waspie made from Mikado silk.
One of the many personal touches that made Grace’s reception look truly one-of-a-kind was the addition of delicate floral embroidery — orchids and irises to reflect her husband’s heritage, and sunflowers — a sweet nod to the flower from one of their first dates.
“Every fitting with Kate and her incredible team was a joy. These dresses are the most special pieces I have ever worn, and I will always be grateful to Kate for creating such personal, extraordinary designs that made me feel more beautiful than I ever thought possible.”
