Gorgeous Charlotte | A Halfpenny London Bride
Lovely couple Charlotte and Ben Owers celebrated their love this summer with a Cornish country wedding, full of rustic charm.
“I’m from Cornwall and Ben always holidayed there as a child,” Charlotte said, “we even got engaged there - so we knew that was always going to be where we had our big day. Working as a creative myself, I wanted to do a lot of the styling - I spent the last 12 months collecting old vintage glassware, cutlery & plates from antique shops, charity shops and car boot sales as well as sourcing linens and fabrics for the table. I also did a lot of crafting too - creating bunting out of vintage lace and different ribbons to hang above our tables. As well as creating chandeliers from old lampshades. All helped to give us that romantic, whimsical, relaxed style we were after - which complimented my dress perfectly.”
With wedding plans firmly in place, Charlotte knew exactly where she’d go to try her dream wedding dress.
“I didn’t go anywhere else, I’ve always had my heart set on a Halfpenny dress since discovering them through Instagram. I just knew I’d find ‘the one’ at my appointment - which I did. My appointment was so wonderful, the shop is beautiful. All the Halfpennys are so friendly and made me feel so welcome. The day was so special, having the whole shop to myself to browse and then try on. Sadly my mum couldn’t join me, but she face-timed in - which was so special. There was even a special stand for the phone so she could feel like she was in the room. I had my cousin with me, so it was lovely to see her reaction in the room to the dresses too. It just was so special to share the memory with someone else - as it was such a dream. Every appointment after my initial one was just as wonderful, meeting different members of the team - all made me feel super welcome and just were so excited for me.
I originally fell in love with the Mayfair dress on Instagram and thought that would be the dress I’d come away with - but after trying it on - I felt like I wanted something more versatile, so my lovely stylist Niamh helped me by pairing the Dayton dress with the Mayfair skirt - allowing me to have a similar silhouette but allowing me to switch up my look for the evening - by removing the Mayfair skirt but keeping the drama of the Issa shrug - to give me those fantastic sleeves. Also the veil just tied it all together and in the wind - it just felt like something straight out of a romance novel - it was so gorgeous. I loved how all the pieces came together, but how easily I could switch up my look for later in the evening on my big day. I also want to wear those sleeves with every outfit I ever wear - they’re amazing.
As soon as I tried the dress on my cousin’s reaction just proved it was the perfect outfit. I loved how it made me feel, the fabric was so stunning, I could move easily and it just made me feel the most beautiful I’d ever felt.”
Being a keen gardener, the wedding florals were super important to Charlotte. “I wanted them to feel like they’ve just been picked from the garden. Seasonal, sustainable and beautiful. I found the wonderful Becca, from @thegardengateflowerco and her ethos was perfect. She filled the room with the most beautiful seasonal blooms. I saw my bouquet as not just florals, but an accessory to my whole look. I didn’t really put it down all day. It paired so well with the fabrics of my dress, and just finished off the look perfectly.”
