Halfpenny MD Jessica ties the knot in a bespoke gown

2020 had a lot of moments we'd all rather forget but there were also so many moments I'll remember as long as I live. One of those moments was helping my wingwoman and Halfpenny London’s MD Jessica get ready to marry the love of her life.

Jessica and new hubby Sheedo originally envisioned a big 2021 wedding with all of their families and friends. But with the world in lockdown they soon realised that their families likely wouldn’t be able to attend. “My family is in Australia, which closed the borders at the beginning of Covid until June 2021. We could see that dragging out further,” Jess says. Meanwhile, Sheedo’s family is from Togo in West Africa. For the foreseeable future, international travel restrictions would be difficult for either bridal party’s family. They decided to go ahead with an intimate wedding and it was a magical, love-loaded day!

Jess and I got to work on her dream outfit. Thanks to the wonders of technology, her loved ones were able to be part of the process.

“I Zoomed my parents, sister, best friend, grandparents, and Sheedo’s family into the appointment, so that they felt included—it was really special!” - Jess

After the decision was made, it was all systems go! We’re so fortunate in having our atelier opposite the boutique so we were able to make the dress in such a short time (bespoke in weeks, it meant all hands on deck!) Jess was able to see her wedding outfit come to life in our atelier as the hand-draped creation took shape. We added some extra special touches, including embroidering a bible verse from her family in Australia into the lining of her corset next to her heart. It was such a pleasure working so closely with Jess to create her a bespoke gown. I think we captured her in every stitch of that dress, and it really was such a team effort!

Jess looked like a goddess on the day and I’ll always cherish the fact that she took me on this journey with her. Without Jess my business would be quite different. She runs Halfpenny London and is the most incredible person you’ll ever meet. I’m over the moon she met her soulmate in Sheedo. I wish you both all the love and luck in the world, today and always.
