Stunning Sophie | A Halfpenny London bride

Beautiful bride Sophie Rose-Woods and her new husband, James Woods, celebrated their love last summer. The couple are both drawn to old English folklore and the arts & crafts movement style, so looked to mix these aesthetic inspirations and references with modern design touches for their big day.

“We tried to avoid too many cliches or anything that looked or felt too formal, slick, or polished,” Sophie said. “Style wise, I’d say we went for eclectic, colourful, romantic and free-spirited.”

Sophie had come across our beautiful Mayfair wedding dress so made an appointment at our flagship boutique in London to try. It turns out it was exactly what she was looking for.

“My dress was the first ever wedding dress I tried on, I had made an appointment at Halfpenny specifically to try the Mayfair, knowing it was exactly what I wanted in a dress. The Halfpenny boutique on Woburn Walk is so plush and beautiful, the whole experience was very special, despite still having Covid restrictions in place when my mum and I visited back in August 2021. It’s like walking into a dressing up box of dreams and the stylist was absolutely perfect, helping me try on a few different options to see how they felt - even though I was pretty dead set on my dress from the very beginning.

Predictably, I fell in love with the Mayfair dress even more when I tried it on, it made me feel like an old movie star like Vivien Leigh in Gone with the Wind or something. The flattering off the shoulder neckline, romantic silhouette and the way the silk organza and ruffles moved was heaven… I was (and still am) obsessed with my dress and think it's the most beautiful thing I’ll probably ever wear.”

I’m thrilled that Sophie found her perfect wedding look at Halfpenny London and she was even lucky enough to find the dress of her dreams in our sample sale.

“I liked that my dress looked like it had had a life before I wore it, and had stories to tell. The ruffles and frills were a little more relaxed than if it was brand new, it looked quite different to how I’d seen other brides wear it – it almost had a vintage wedding dress feel. Which just made me love it even more!”

The look was completed with Loeffler Randall Camellia shoes in Ivory and Monica Vinader x Mother of Pearl Baroque Pearl earrings.

“I wanted to wear baroque pearls and just love that each pair is irregular and unique as well as being sustainably conscious. They were my ‘something new’ as a gift from my family and I love them so much.”

Huge congratulations to Sophie and James! Wishing them both all the love in the world and every happiness in their new lives together.

Love,

Kate & the Halfpennys xxx
