Gorgeous Danielle | A Halfpenny London Bride

Beautiful couple Danielle and Henrik Grantham-Bergström started their married life as they meant to go on: “not taking life too seriously and making sure our guests have the most fun possible,” Danielle said. It was important for the couple to blend their cultures (Henrik is Swedish, Danielle is British) and personalities throughout their summer wedding, which leant towards a non-traditional and relaxed approach, yet extravagant and elegant too.

“We started dinner with the Best Men leading a Swedish drinking song and shots of snaps for everyone, had numerous guests make speeches throughout the day, no cake but ice cream with cocktails on the meadow, and a brass band stormed the ceremony once we were announced as man and wife and had everyone dancing throughout our afternoon tea and gin bar reception.”

At first, Danielle’s dress search wasn’t quite how she imagined…

“I was surprised how difficult it became, as a lot of the stores and designers I tried did not capture or understand what I was searching for, so it ended up being overwhelming and not the fairytale experience I expected. I was told a few times it was not possible to be both ‘show stopping wow’ and ‘timeless and classic simultaneously. Safe to say, Lyndsey at Amare Bridal recognised my vision immediately. She just totally got me from the get go. I knew absolutely as soon as I stepped in the store, I’d be finding my dress there. There is just something so special about the curation at Amare. Lyndsey was absolutely made for styling brides.

I was instantly drawn to the Dahlia dress as soon as I opened the door. And when Lyndsey told me it was Halfpenny I was thrilled. From the day we were engaged I’d imagined myself in a Halfpenny dress but living in Sweden most the year, I hadn’t had the chance to try any yet.

The Mikado fabric was the first thing that caught my eye. It was glistening in the sunlight! The design encapsulated everything I’d be looking for without realising it; the elegance of the square neckline, fitted waist and structured column, alongside the drama of the pleated skirt and incredible huge bow. It fit the brief and then some. I didn’t even have to look in the mirror to know it was the one. The way the dress made me feel was the give away. I knew that was how I wanted to feel when I got married. Oh, and then the tears! When I did see my reflection, I still felt like myself, but the absolute goddess version.

As the dress was a nod to my English heritage, I wanted to also wear a Swedish designer and Sania d’mina was the obvious choice as her shoes are works of art. The Elena slingbacks are covered in tiny pearls, and are so chic yet so comfortable. I was the only person with their heels still on at the end of the night which even I was surprised by as I didn’t leave the dance floor as soon as The White Keys started playing! Sania went above and beyond for me to have the date and my new initials embossed on the sole of the shoe. I had a Sophia Webster clutch also covered in huge pearls, although I kept my lipstick in the pocket of the dress so I barely used it!”

I’m so happy Danielle found her dream Halfpenny London dress at our wonderful stockist, Amare. She looked incredible and we all wish her and Henrik all the love and luck in the world!

Love,
