ADVICE | Finding the perfect wedding dress for you
Searching for the perfect wedding dress should be a wonderful experience. Sipping a glass of bubbles, trying on beautiful dresses and imagining your big day with your partner? Dreamy! So, why does it feel daunting for some?
For every bride that comes into the boutique who already knows exactly how her wedding dress will look, there’s another who hasn’t given it a single thought. If this is you, don’t worry!
“But how do I even know where to start finding The One?” I hear you say, or maybe you know exactly how your wedding dress will look in your imagination but don’t know where to find it. Either way, here’s my advice after dressing thousands of women for one of the most special days of their lives.
Firstly, your own wardrobe is a great starting point so have a think about the clothes you already own that make you feel amazing and make a note about what specifically it is about them you love - The neckline? The fabric? - then, it’s time for some research!
We’re lucky enough to have endless inspiration at our fingertips so have fun on Instagram or Pinterest where you’ll see a huge variety of designs and will quickly get to know the looks that resonate with you. Is it a classic nipped in waist/full-skirt silhouette? Or perhaps a non-traditional wedding dress is more your style? What about a chic trouser suit? I love a twist on tradition so a jumpsuit worn with a sheer overskirt, or a beautiful edgy, draped corset worn with a Mikado skirt can have that fashion sensibility and also give a nod to tradition, but in a totally modern way. At this stage, let your imagination run wild!
The most important thing to remember is the key to finding your perfect wedding outfit is choosing a style that makes you feel like the very best version of yourself and that doesn’t necessarily have to be a dress. Some women can’t imagine themselves in a dress at all but worry they won’t feel ‘bridal’ enough if they don’t wear one. Feeling bridal has nothing to do with a particular style of dress and everything to do with the emotion wrapped up in that garment, so be yourself, whether that's in a ballgown, jumpsuit or mini dress.
