Gorgeous Genevieve | A Halfpenny London bride

Stunning couple Genevieve and Khilen Nathwani celebrated their love in May last year in a sun drenched ceremony in Portugal. When their original plans were cancelled due to the pandemic, they decided to mark the moment anyway with a symbolic ceremony, just the two of them and their dog Rothko.

“We’d recently moved to Portugal so decided to find somewhere special here. We opted for the beautiful Sao Lourenço do Barrocal in the Alentejo countryside. Barrocal is located in a dark sky reserve so we had a special stargazing session the night before the wedding. Our ceremony was held in an old beehive. It was really intimate and romantic! Whilst we were so disappointed we couldn’t get everyone together, it was really special having a wedding for just the two of us (three if you count Rothko the ringbearer).⁣”

You must read the caption of Genevieve’s instagram post below about their journey and the favourite moments surrounding the celebrations.

I was lucky enough to meet Genevieve during her appointment in our Bloomsbury boutique and loved working with her to find her dream outfit.

“My appointments were super relaxed and fun. We had lots of space, I was comfortable, and I really appreciated the old location and quiet London street. I wanted the outfit to be comfortable, distinctive, sexy and chic. You delivered. [I knew my outfit was the one because of] the way I felt in it when I was walking around and not looking at it in the mirror. Hard to describe! It just felt good on my body. It felt like me.”

We are constantly saying this to brides during their appointment. Concentrate on how the dress makes you feel! Some expect to have a real moment when they find their gown but it’s a different experience for everyone. For some it’s tears, for others, it’s a quiet confidence they feel like the very best version of themselves. Either way, it’s wonderful to be in the room when it happens! Genevieve looked sensational in our Dion dress and Daniel top, with its statement silk organza sleeves and stiff Mikado trim.

“I made my own flowers. It was a big mixture including peonies, clematis, David Austin roses, sweet peas, blue delphinium and olive foliage from the Barrocal estate. I started my own floristry business called Dancing Bee after this experience (I previously worked for Rebel Rebel in London). The name comes from a poem I read during our ceremony called Hum by Mary Oliver, which I chose because our ceremony was held in an old beehive.”

I’m completely in love with these images by Adriana Morais. So dreamy! Sending so much joy to this wonderful couple and wishing them countless love-loaded adventures together.

Love,

Kate & the Halfpennys xxx
