Stunning Rose | A Halfpenny London bride

Dreamy couple Rose and Patrick Woodhead celebrated their love in September last year in a stunningly romantic wedding in Cornwall. Rose was kind enough to give us some details about the big day:

“We got married in St Ildierna's Church in the Cornish village of Lansallos - which dates back to the 14th century and looks over the sea towards Lantic Bay. I wanted the day to have a vintage feel which I think Kirstin really captured in our photography. My dad hired a Navy Morgan for us, we used antique brass vessels for the tables (that my mum trawled through many antique shops across Cornwall for) and of course Tredudwell Manor is such a beautiful old house. It all tied together so beautifully. My Dad was in the Royal Navy for over 20 years and my brother is now Surgeon-Lieutenant; I’m very proud of them and I wanted them to wear uniforms.

I was expecting it to be a foggy day as you never know with Cornwall - but I was so delighted the sun completely came through the clouds as I put my dress on and met my dad in the courtyard of Tredudwell. We just couldn’t believe it as we drove to the Church how lucky we were.”

Rose wanted an elegant, timeless wedding dress and we’re thrilled our boutique was her main destination.

“Halfpenny was the top of my list! It was the first place I visited. I’d always loved the designs and, as it was lockdown, I didn’t have much time to shop around. I knew Halfpenny had to be the first place I went. The stylist that helped me, and my Maid of Honour, Tash, was so kind and made me feel so at ease. As it was lockdown she let my parents join via Facetime, as they were stuck in Cornwall and couldn’t travel. I later went back to the fitting appointments with my mum and she absolutely loved how careful and delicate the team was with my fitting. Everyone at Halfpenny was so kind and made me feel so special.

It was actually my 30th birthday on the day of my first appointment and I remembered it so vividly. It was such a happy moment as the Cheryl was the first dress I tried, I just knew it was the one! I felt like me in it, not like I was “trying on a wedding dress”! I knew it was the one because I think it reminded me of Grace Kelly’s dress in High Society, when she’s lying by the pool and dreaming of her honeymoon with Dexter. There’s something so 1920s about it. And while it’s quite slinky, the fabric is so weighty that you feel very secure and comfortable.

The soft flowers around the neckline of the campagne cape were such a beautiful way to give me the modesty I felt I needed for our church wedding. As I’m called Rose, I knew I wanted some flowers in the dress and the cape was the perfect way to add that - without it being too much!

I loved that I could re-tie the dress across my front for the evening, which is what I did before the dinner and when I made my speech. I liked the drama of having the cape for the first half of the day, with it blowing in the Cornish wind, and then taking it off to reveal the glamour and striking back of the dress in the evening. It was a great way to transition for the dinner and our first dance.”

Rose looked so incredible! We love her lovely hairstyle created by her family friend, Bella Alexander, and her pale pink bouquet was the perfect finishing touch.

“My mum is an amazing florist and chose the flowers for the hall and Church - then we worked with Charlie Blewett, a local Cornish florist, to create my bouquet and an arch above the main table. I remember my mum driving to the market the Wednesday before the wedding and filling their garage with hundreds of roses, greenery and these yellow dahlias. My best friend Peach who is a florist from New England - flew in from Boston a few days before the wedding and was busy making all the table decorations straight after arriving in Cornwall - despite her jet lag!”

The love and joy of this special couple’s day leaps off the page! Long may that love continue and we wish Rose and Patrick countless years of bliss.

Love,

The Halfpennys xxx
