Jubilee Cape | From Sketch to ceremony

Designing the Courage collection really made me lean into boldness. It was so freeing and joyous to let our imagination run wild and delve even deeper into the endlessly fascinating exploration of fabrics, texture and textiles. The glorious floral embellishment seen on our Jubilee cape had previously been explored in the Daydreamer collection and I knew there was more magic to be found within the delicious beading and tiny sequins. Experimenting with embellishments and trim has always been a mainstay of my designs and I knew we’d found another showcase in the ethereal Jubilee cape.

Extra-long tulle panels are secured to a matching chocker neckpiece, secured at the nape of the neck with ties which can be knotted into a big, floppy bow, or left to float down the back. We then played with the placement of that glorious embellishment: hand-beaded rose motifs with subtly shimmering sequins and beads. We wanted them to seemingly grow organically from the neck, over the shoulders, then fade throughout the extra-long train. Once we were happy with the placement, an artwork is created to be a literal blueprint of the pattern with exactly where the beads and sequins need to be sewn. This, and the final fabric, is sent off to a team of incredible artisans for beading, then returned to us to be crafted into the final piece.
