Beautiful Katie | A Halfpenny London Bride

Beautiful bride Katie and her new husband Louis celebrated their love in November last year in a vintage inspired wedding with a colourful, autumnal theme, complete with retro-style stationery, brightly coloured flowers, and glittery bridesmaids dresses.

Katie visited our flagship boutique and our beautiful embroidered Esme dress turned out to be everything she wished for.

“I’d been to one shop before,” Katie said, “and had actually been pretty certain I’d found my dress there! However, I’d admired Halfpenny dresses from afar way before getting engaged and I had booked an appointment, so came along because I couldn’t NOT try on the dresses I’d had my eye on!”

She especially loved the idea of separates, and being able to create her own look and be able to change it throughout the wedding.

“My appointment was so lovely and relaxed, and my stylist was SO helpful. Even though I had been to another dress shop, I was still nervous that none of the dresses would suit me. I tried on so many dresses during my appointment, and by the end I was trying on dresses I never thought I’d like on myself and feeling good in them. I loved playing with all the different options – slip dresses with different overskirts, different tops etc.

Eventually, after trying on several dresses, I showed my stylist a picture of a dress I’d seen online. It didn’t have sleeves, something I was sure I wanted, so I’d completely ruled it out for myself before coming into the shop, but after trying on so many other styles and feeling confident in them, we pulled out the Esme dress and cape. When I saw it online I loved the idea of being a little bit extra and having a wedding cape, and I’m so glad I had the confidence to try it on, because I completely fell in love. It was the only dress out of everything I tried on that made my mum cry. I also finally felt like a bride, but completely felt like myself, rather than like I was playing dress up.

I loved the classic shape of the skirt mixed with the gorgeous, unusual fabric. Having originally pictured myself in lace, the material of the Esme felt like the perfect middle ground between vintage and modern. I also loved that I could still have the option to change my look just by taking off my cape for the evening.”

The embroidered tulle Esme dress and cape have a very special place in my heart and it was the perfect choice for Katie. She looks utterly stunning! She completed her look with a gold headband and shoes, earrings gifted by her mum as ‘something new’, her grandmother’s pendant as ‘something borrowed’, her great, great grandmother’s engagement ring as ‘something old’, and we sewed a tiny blue bow underneath her dress as ‘something blue’.

Myself and the Halfpennys wish Katie and Louis all the love and luck in the world as they embark on their new lives together. Huge congratulations you two!

Love,

Kate & the Halfpennys xxx
