Gorgeous Lucy | A Halfpenny London bride

Beautiful bride Lucy and new husband George finally said “I do” in July last year after being delayed multiple times during the pandemic. The couple decided on an English countryside celebration with a marquee in Lucy’s parents’ garden and included subtle nods to the city they met, Singapore, with the use of Chinese lanterns in the floral arrangements and stationery.

Lucy’s search for her wedding dress was a piece of cake…

“I was a total cliché,” she said. “I genuinely ended up wearing the first dress I tried on. I had followed Halfpenny on Instagram since before I was even engaged, just because I simply love Kate’s designs and her ethos, so it was always going to be my first stop. I was particularly drawn to the inclusivity of Halfpenny’s social media campaigns using a range of body shapes and the way that Kate’s designs allow for the use of separate pieces so that you can completely make a look your own.”

Lucy wanted the flexibility of having two looks, for day and night, without having to have two dresses. Thankfully she came to the right place!

“I knew I wanted a more romantic and typically bridal look in the day for the ceremony and the reception in the garden, with a cleaner more ‘black tie’ style look in the evening that was easier to dance in. The way the Halfpenny designs are primarily based on putting together separate pieces allows you to completely change your look with a minimum of fuss. During the day I wore the Daffodil Dress with the Bay skirt over the top and a cathedral length veil. I had the Daffodil Dress adjusted so that it was more of a streamlined fit and flare shape as in the evening I took off the skirt and wore just the dress with the Jessica Belt added for some sparkle.

I was genuinely so not excited to go wedding dress shopping. I was dreading the looks from wedding dress fitters thinking that I wouldn’t fit into sample sizes. Honestly the thought made me feel sick. I had an idea of the sort of shapes I thought I wanted to wear but I definitely didn’t have a dream dress. What is absolutely KEY about the Halfpenny experience is that they have a range of sample sizes. I cannot stress how demoralizing it is waddling around a dress shop in a dress that would barely fit over your thigh let alone your torso with a pieces of white fabric shoved in the back to protect your modesty. No such experience at Halfpenny! I honestly still tell people that I’m sure I chose my dress because of the experience I had at Halfpenny and how I was made to feel in the dress when I was there!

I never ever expected to love a dress. All I can say is that from the moment I arrived at the boutique I was made to feel so comfortable. I mentioned a few things I liked from looking online but really I didn’t have to say much as the amazing stylists just had so many ideas on what would suit me. I completely put my trust in them and I was right to do so because when we landed on the combination of pieces which made up my final dress I saw myself in a way I never had before.”

Clothes are so powerful and I love that women feel amazing wearing my designs. It’s honestly the best feeling! Lucy looked utterly incredible on her big day and I’m so grateful she came to see us at Halfpenny London. Finding your wedding dress should be a magical experience and I’m so pleased she found what she was looking for.

Huge congratulations to Lucy and George! Wishing you a live full of love and happiness.

Love,

Kate & the Halfpennys xxx
