Designing with a conscience

Becoming more sustainable has been a focus at Halfpenny London for a while now. It can feel intimidating at first as it’s such a huge issue and there’s a lot to consider. Unlike fast fashion, every bridal gown is made to order so there’s never any surplus stock and we’ve always been mindful of our wasted fabric, donating offcuts to schools, universities and places like that since the beginning.

One of our popular pieces is the Riri skirt which is made using meters and meters of silk organza cut into circles. Since the Songbird collection launched we’ve been repurposing the offcuts from the Riri and making the most beautiful flowers and other appliques for new pieces. My mum always taught me to find the magic in the tiniest piece of cloth and it’s wonderful to create these beautiful things from what would have been waste.

We’re continuing to push ahead with our sustainability initiatives and have already started mapping out a way in which we can do an entirely sustainable and recycled collection for the future.

Halfpenny London are proud to design with a conscience.

Love,

Kate & the Halfpennys xxx
