Samson | Our Wedding Dress of the Week

Halfpenny LondonComment

Our wedding dress of the week is the stunning Samson...  As you know, I'm CRAZY about fabric and texture so the minute I saw this gorgeous fabric I knew I needed to incorporate it into the collection.  Laser cut geometric shapes beside exquisite modern lace make the Samson corset and skirt special.  I've worked with the fabric to maintain the graphic elements like the vertical front panel and I'm completely in love with it.  Shown here with the Hugo sleeves, this is one for the bold brides out there!

Good morning!  I hope you had a lovely bank holiday weekend.  We've had a weekend of celebrations as it was my son Sylvester's birthday and our wedding anniversary! My gorgeous James and I been married for six incredible years and I couldn't ask for a better husband and father for Sylvester.  We spent the weekend with family and friends and had a wonderful time.  The summer is nearly over and we're making the most of it...

Until next week...

Toby & Toni | Our Wedding Dress of the Week

Halfpenny LondonComment

Elegant, simple and totally chic!  That's how I'd describe our wedding Dress of the Week.  The Toby wrap top is constructed using a delicious matte crepe-back satin.  It can be tied at the back or the front depending on your mood and the V neckline and sleeves are super flattering on so may body types.  The Toni skirt is sleek and sexy with a fit and flare silhouette and small train.  Together, they are the perfect understated, yet glamorous wedding look.

Good morning!  After a fabulous weekend at an incredible wedding I'm heading into the atelier for a packed day of meetings and appointments.  The Halfpennys are all go at the moment because we're gearing up for New York bridal market, some other great events and, of course, finishing the new collection.  Nearly there!  I'm itching to show you but I have to hold on for a little longer....

Until next week!

Millie Mackintosh weds in Halfpenny London

Halfpenny London4 Comments

My gorgeous friend Millie Mackintosh and her handsome hubby Hugo Taylor tied the knot recently and I've been dying to share her beautiful pictures!  Doesn't she look incredible??  And Hugo looks so handsome.  The day was just perfect and it was amazing to be able to celebrate their love with them.

Millie wore a bespoke Halfpenny London gown that we worked on and designed together. It was made with stunning French lace, fine spotty tulle and silk organza. The flowers on the draped body and the double bubble sleeves were hand appliquéd. We complimented the look with a simple soft long plain tulle veil.  Millie finished off the look with a gorgeous bespoke Tilly Thomas Lux headpiece.

Congratulations to the gorgeous couple!  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your amazing day and I wish you every happiness in your new adventures.

Max | Our Wedding Dress of the Week

Halfpenny LondonComment

This dress blew up our Pinterest account when we first posted it and has remained a favourite ever since.  Our wedding dress of the week is the deliciously simple Max.  The stunning combination of low, sensual back and high, square neckline had made this popular with brides-to-be in our boutique.  Cut from luxurious crepe-back satin, Max is the perfect choice for brides looking for something simple, yet totally stunning for their big day.

I actually can't believe it's August already...  The months have hurtled by this year.  We've already been in our new house for a few weeks.  The renovations are going to take a long time but we've already started.  I'll be sharing the process over on instagram for anyone who's interested.

We also had a very busy week of new brides and lots of fittings in the boutique.  Congratulations to all of our gorgeous brides who tied the knot this weekend!  I love it when you tag us in your pictures so keep them coming!

Until next week...

Gorgeous Lianne | A real Halfpenny London bride

Halfpenny LondonComment

Gorgeous bride Lianne married her new hubby Chris on 17th June last year at Liverpool Parish Church followed by a reception held at Oh Me Oh My in Liverpool City Centre.  Lianne found us through Love My Dress and was worried about shopping for her wedding dress.  I'm so glad she came to us!

“I had completely buried my head in the sand about my dress and had to be coerced by my bridesmaids into actually going to look at some. I am plus size and we were trying for a baby after many challenges so I had everything crossed that I might be pregnant by the time we got married and I felt completely at a loss as to where to start looking. The ‘Daisy dress’ was actually the first dress I had tried on and despite visiting lots of other bridal shops and trying and attempting to try on many other dresses, it was the one that was always the front-runner. The wrap style of the Daisy was the most flattering for my shape and was perfect to accommodate a growing bump.

“I decided to purchase the dress directly from Halfpenny London, as I wanted the peace of mind that their own atelier was there to deal with the uncertainty of what the final measurements might turn out to be. I was 8 weeks pregnant when I ordered the dress and 6 months pregnant when we got married which made the fittings less than straightforward but Kate and her team of magicians especially Marilyne made me feel so comfortable and reassured me that they would make sure I left with the dress of my dreams. I travelled from Liverpool to London for the fittings which was actually one of my favourite parts of the wedding planning as my best friend and chief bridesmaid lives there and it we made each trip into a special occasion. The dress even had its own seat in first class when I travelled home on the train after the final fitting!”

First class?!  Quite right too!

Huge congratulations to Lianne and Chris!  You can see more of their special day over on Love My Dress.

I had the loveliest time in the south of France celebrating our gorgeous Marilyne's wedding to her dreamy hubby Raj.  It was the most magical weekend surrounded by her adorable family and we had so much fun.  She looked INCREDIBLE in her dress, a true fairytale princess.  Congratulations you two!

It struck me as I looked at the most popular instagram posts from last week how fabulous these three brides look.  Three totally different women with totally different weddings, all rocking their Halfpenny creations.  THAT is why I love my job so much.  We're making women's dresses of dream here in our little studio.  I wouldn't change it for the world.

Until next week....

Beautiful Victoria | A real Halfpenny London bride

Halfpenny LondonComment

Have you ever seen a more adorable couple than Victoria and Paul?  Their lovely photographer Nicola Dixon sent through these images of their big day and we're totally in love!  Victoria was the very first bride to wear the new Victor slip from the Fly Me to the Moon collection so we decided to name it after her!  It's only right as she looks incredible in it!

For the ceremony, Victoria teamed the Victor slip with the Gladioli skirt from The Garden After the Rain collection and a wide belt, then for the evening she showcased her incredible curves with just the Victor and the belt.

I love these beautiful pictures.  Victoria and Paul look so happy!  Exactly how it should be.

Congratulations to the happy couple!  We wish you every happiness in your new lives together.

Good morning!  I'm in the south of France for a fabulous wedding this week.  Can't wait to celebrate with the bride and groom!

Last week was a big one for us as we finally completed the purchase of our dream home!  It's been a long road and although part of me is very sad to leave London behind, I'm excited about this new chapter.  We’ll be back one day when we’ve retired.  For now, we’re looking forward to waking up near the sea, breathing cleaner air, having a wild time for Sylvester in the countryside and being near family.   The renovations are going to take a long time but we can't wait to get started!

Until next week...

Stunning Harriet | A real Halfpenny London bride

Halfpenny LondonComment

Gorgeous bride Harriet and her new hubby tied the knot in May this year in a magical springtime inspired ceremony.

"We embraced all things spring like for our day – inspired by the season and the dress! We wanted it to be a really relaxed celebration so filled the day with little surprises for our guests like a fab magician in the afternoon, live music and a saxophone in the evening. We ate lamb, drank gin and embraced the sunshine!"

Harriet wore the Rosa corset and Dita tulle skirt which she purchased from our amazing stockist in Northern Ireland, the White Gallery.

"Before this I found that lots of dresses were very similar, nothing in the Halfpenny collection was like any wedding dress I had ever seen, it was like playing dress up but as an adult!  The White Gallery was just beautiful every little detail and Rachel made me feel so special.

"Although the Rosa corset and Dita skirt were not what I thought I wanted I couldn’t help but try them on because they were just so beautiful! As soon as I put them on I was grinning and knew I would be the happiest bride I could be in them. Which at the end of the day is what it’s all about.  It was the first dress that I had a uncontrollable smile in!"

Rosa and Dita were the perfect choice for Harriet!  She looks absolutely gorgeous and I'm not surprised she couldn't stop smiling!  She finished off her look with a simple pair of blush suede courts from Office and her sister’s veil which she had altered to suit her aisle style.  The final touch was a little pair of blue drop earrings which her dad had given to her mum as a gift as her something borrowed and blue.

Congratulations to the newlyweds!  We wish you long and happy lives loving each other.

Lots of love,

Kate & the Halfpennys xxx

Gorgeous Leah | A real Halfpenny London bride

Halfpenny LondonComment

Beautiful bride Leah and her new husband Harry married last September in the beautiful setting of Bruisyard Hall, Saxmundham which was perfect for their autumn inspired celebrations which included a few nods to Leah’s family’s Caribbean roots.

Leah came to see us at our Bloomsbury boutique and chose a stellar combination of our Andrea corset and feathered Swan skirt.

“I was quite keen on finding a dress that had something a little different and quirky about it, but still wanted it to feel bridal. In a previous job I’d worked round the corner from Halfpenny and had walked past it most days. When Harry and I got engaged I knew that I wanted to try on Halfpenny dresses as the ones I’d seen fitted my brief perfectly.

“I went to Halfpenny with my mum (who was surprisingly excited given her general lack of enthusiasm for dresses) and one of my bridesmaids. I instantly fell in love with the Andrea corset. It was so beautiful but unbelievably comfortable. I decided to stick with that and try on the different skirts on offer. They were all incredibly dreamy and beautiful, but there was something so special about the Swan. I felt like I hadn’t seen anything similar before, yet it wasn’t so out there that it didn’t look like a wedding dress. Bridesmaid Becky encouraged me to try on a sash, which I had originally been against (I was worried that I’d look a little bit too much like a little girl at first holy communion), but it brought the top and the skirt together perfectly.”

These gorgeous images by Him & Her Photography are so full of love and laughter!  I absolutely adore them and you can see the full gallery over on Love My Dress here.

Congratulations Leah & Harry!  We wish you all the very best in your new adventures together.

Love,

Kate & the Halfpennys xxx
