Millie Mackintosh weds in Halfpenny London

Kate Halfpenny4 Comments

My gorgeous friend Millie Mackintosh and her handsome hubby Hugo Taylor tied the knot recently and I've been dying to share her beautiful pictures!  Doesn't she look incredible??  And Hugo looks so handsome.  The day was just perfect and it was amazing to be able to celebrate their love with them.

Millie wore a bespoke Halfpenny London gown that we worked on and designed together. It was made with stunning French lace, fine spotty tulle and silk organza. The flowers on the draped body and the double bubble sleeves were hand appliquéd. We complimented the look with a simple soft long plain tulle veil.  Millie finished off the look with a gorgeous bespoke Tilly Thomas Lux headpiece.

Congratulations to the gorgeous couple!  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your amazing day and I wish you every happiness in your new adventures.

Love,

Gorgeous Lydia | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate Halfpenny14 Comments

I love working with brides to realise their vision of their perfect wedding dress and I knew from the minute I met Lydia we would have a Halfpenny London Love affair and create something spectacular.

Lydia and her gorgeous beau, Ali, tied the knot at the end of 2017 in a fairytale ceremony followed by a fabulous party, not to mention the night before rehearsal party at the venue.  Their wedding was full of the most lovely personal touches and Lydia discusses her day and what worked - or didn't work - for the couple over on her website in a brilliantly personal post.

Lydia was a dream client to work with and I loved her final choice of the Riri skirt and a bespoke top for the ceremony.  We created the top specifically for Lydia and she looked absolutely epic, the dreamy wintery bride, so effortless and elegant!  The low back and covered buttons looked amazing paired with the endless ruffles of the skirt. after the official wedding was over Lydia changed into the Dita beaded corset… An incredible combination!

I adore these pictures by Wish Wish Weddings.  They really capture all of the beauty of the day and Lydia & Ali look so beyond happy and in love!

"Apart from her unique eye for design and her warm heart, one of the main reasons I fell in love with Kate at Halfpenny London was the versatility of her collections. I wanted to feel like I was wearing my dress all day, because it is my wedding dress. I wanted to kiss my new husband in that dress, I wanted to hug all my amazing family in that dress and I wanted to party until 5am at our basement after party in that dress. So with a subtle change of top I was able to keep the raw edged ruffles of the Riri skirt and change from the demure long sleeve bespoke top we designed together for the ceremony to a fun and classic bodice for the party which channeled the different elements of my style perfectly.  Thank you Kate for making my dreams a complete reality!"

The team and I had the best time working with Lydia at all of our appointments. We’re sure going to miss the visits, the chats, the fun and making dreams a reality.  Congratulations Lydia & Ali!  It was an absolute pleasure working with you on your dress, Lydia.  You looked sensational and it was a joy.  You're a dream client, one that I now call a friend. I’ll miss our fittings but excited you’re coming in next week for a fitting for a dress for event, YEAH, lets keep making the magic happen….

Congratulations you two!

Fabulous Jess | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

My gorgeous friend Jess married her lovely Rob at Castelnau des Fieumarcon in Legarde, Gascony, France on 6th August last year.  Knowing the creative genius Jess is I knew her wedding would be spectacular and I was 100% right!

Jess and Rob had already tied the knot formally in London a month prior to celebrating in France but where to even start describing this epic wedding where the couple were crowned as ‘Sun King’ and ‘Moon Queen’ by their celebrant, rejoiced with ‘the elements’, celebrated with exploding confetti and rainbow coloured smoke bombs!

“We wanted a real festival feel for our wedding in France – like a fiesta or carnival. In fact we called it ‘Wedstock’! The background palette of the venue and surroundings were very natural, grass and greenery, straw bales, stone, rocks, gravel etc. I wanted to have all the décor as colourful as possible – rainbow colours. We asked all our guests to wear white, both for style and also comfort in the heat. We had originally wanted to do a ‘Holi’ festival of colour, but realised what a mess it would make so opted for coloured smoke bombs instead.”

I worked with Jess to create her dream wedding dress which was actually a top and skirt she could wear again afterwards.

“I wore pale grey/blue duchesse silk. I have always loved the corseted ‘wench’ look, and wanted something like this for the French Wedding. I also wanted something off the shoulder as I think it’s flattering.”“I knew it would be hot there and I wanted some bare skin so as to stay cool. I wanted to make the most of my lady bumps too. A corset helped keep ‘everything’ nice and tight. I did not want to wear white, ideally I wanted grey but we settled for a slight pale blue grey in the end.

For the skirt I really wanted to show my ankles off, as they are the skinniest bit of me! I loved the big chunky pleats and full skirt look, and we went for an asymmetric hem, which mirrors the curve of the neckline, but reversed.”

We love everything about this gorgeous wedding and I'm delighted we could play a small part in it.

Congratulations Jess & Rob!  We wish you every happiness in your new adventures together!

Stunning Fiona | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Our gorgeous bride Fiona tied the knot in September last year in a beautiful vintage style rustic ceremony.  Fiona chose our Esme dress as it reminded her of a vintage dress she'd found on Pinterest and she loved that we were able to customise the dress into a high-low for her. Esme's floral embroidery suited her theme perfectly and we think she looks utterly gorgeous!

Congratulations to the happy couple and we wish you every happiness in your new lives together!

Stunning Fiona | A real Halfpenny London Bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Lovely bride Fiona was married in Tuscany in May this year and her Italian rustic chic wedding was effortlessly gorgeous.

Having "dreaded" wedding dress shopping, a stylist recommended us to Fiona and we're so glad she did!

"I went to 3 other shops which were all lovely but I just felt the dresses weren't quite right.  A stylist I worked with recommended Halfpenny and I think I was subconsciously holding out until my appointment as she'd spoken so highly of the collection.  I walked in a decided I'd buy my dress from Halfpenny before I even tried one on. I loved the fabrics and the shop straight away. I knew I'd find something."

The bustier of Fiona's Esme dress was customised to suit her personal style as she knew she wanted to wear flowers in her hair and wanted the contrast with the simpler top.  We love how it turned out!

"I didn't want the over all look to be too busy. I also think that even though you want a beautiful dress, you want people to say 'doesn't she look lovely' not 'isn't the dress lovely'. I think anything too decorative can be distracting. I loved the fabric of the skirt, I'd never seen anything like it before. It was so light to wear and suited the Italian whimsical feel of the wedding."

An Amanda Wakeley veil, Jimmy Choo shoes, vintage diamond and pearl earnings from Greys Antiques and her mother in law's stunning sapphire ring completed the look.

Congratulations Fiona!  You looked absolutely stunning and we wish you and your new husband all the very best in your life together.

Gorgeous Andrea | A real Halfpenny London bride

Kate HalfpennyComment

Our lovely bride Andrea's outdoor wedding took place in the beautiful Galician countryside and these images by Sara Lejon captured her big day perfectly.

Andrea had a vision of her dream dress and we were thrilled to be able to make a custom gown for her which lived up to her expectations.

"I had imagined it like that in my head for years, and the end result was exactly what I had wanted all along.  I enjoyed [my experience at Halfpenny London] from the first meeting, every visit there I knew we were working towards my dream dress. I remember the last fitting, looking in the mirror INCREDIBLY happy. I will never forget it and would do it all over again. On the day, everyone complemented my dress, they said it suited me perfectly and was 100% me."

Andrea accessorised her dress with a diamond belt, vintage hairpiece and metallic Jimmy Choo sandals. Simply stunning!

Congratulations Andrea!  We wish you both all the happiness in the world.

Vera - Our dress of the week

Kate HalfpennyComment

The Halfpenny London wedding dress of the week is the stunning luxury silk crepe bias cut Vera dress - the ultimate in slinky bridal wear!

The French knot detail that frames the plunging low back is just so pretty.  It makes quite the statement walking down the aisle...

Real Halfpenny London bride Alice wore a bespoke version of the Vera dress with an antique lace back panel.  It suited her personality perfectly and the lace showed off her individual style.

This show-stopping dress is not only a hit with brides-to-be, it's also a perfect red carpet dress and model Daisy Lowe wore it to Poppy Delevingne's party which she hosted for Jo Malone.  We think she looked totally stunning! A perfect English Rose.
